waiting for appointment

My first appointment is Sept 2. Feels like forever away! I will be 8 weeks at that point...wondering if I will get an ultrasound on that day. I am calling to ask tomorrow. Did any of you have an ultrasound on your first appointment?

Re: waiting for appointment

  • As PP said, it really depends on your doctor. If you had regular cycles before getting pregnant and don't have history of loss or complications, your first ultrasound may not be until your anatomy scan at 18/20 weeks. At my initial visit, my Dr. did a pelvic exam to check uterus size and answered questions. 8 weeks will be too early to hear a heartbeat on Doppler, but by your next appt. you should be able to. It's hard to wait, but at the same time, think of it as being thankful to not need lots of tracking early. Good luck!

  • It'll be here before you know it and you will be glad you waited :)
  • I had bloodwork done during week 6, and will return to the doctor this week for my first ultrasound. They also said that I should be able to hear the heartbeat. Today marks week 8!
  • The practice I go to only does an anatomy scan around 20 weeks if everything is fine.  The first visit is just with a nurse for bloodwork and information.

  • My first appt at 6.5 weeks was just a routine exam and bloodwork. Had my first u/s at 8w2d got to see the baby and the heart beat. Depending on your pregnancy and if you're high risk you may just get a dating ultrasound and the anatomy scan at 20 weeks. Unfortunatly since I'm high risk I will get scans every 2 weeks from week 14-22 then they will determine from there. Although I'm super happy about seeing my baby more often it's still scary because the reason they are doing them...
  • I had an apt at 5w6d (no prior issues) and we got an ultrasound, I had a pap and we did blood work. It was a 3 hour apt no exaggeration. Then I was told to come back two weeks later (this upcoming Wednesday) for a dating ultrasound.

  • Great to hear so much feedback. I guess I will have to wait and see. I suppose waiting a little longer is best so I am not worried or disappointed if I am not as far along as I think I am
  • My first appointment was a few weeks ago and that was just for blood work. My next appointment is in 2 weeks and was told that I would get an ultrasound that day. I will be 8 weeks 4 days then.

My first appointment was at three weeks five days. My second appointment was at six weeks give days and I had an ultrasound (and was able to hear the heartbeat).
