When do you plan on announcing?

Sorry if this type of thread has been done before, but I would like everyone's opinion. I can't decide when I want to tell people about my pregnancy. I would like to at least tell my parents soon, but I think I am going to wait until after my first appointment to make sure everything looks good. As for the rest of my family/friends, I think I at least want to wait until I am 12 weeks, which would be the first week of October, but I might wait longer. I bought the shirt pictured below last year before I had my ectopic pregnancy and never got to wear it, so I thought about waiting until closer to Halloween so I could use that for my announcement. So anyways, I was just wondering when you all plan on telling people and how you plan to do so.

Re: When do you plan on announcing?

  • I've been telling people as I've seen them. We told immediate family and some close friends. I'm waiting until 12 weeks to tell the whole world.

  • We have told immediate family already.  If i have hyperemesis with this pregnancy like I did my first one we will be needing help with my daughter soon.  Also my sister was in town from out of state and I wanted to tell her in person.  Some people at work know already too.  I can't take care of certain patients or do my xrays so people tend to find out pretty early in our unit.

  • At first we were thinking about telling our families after we got our beta results but now I want to wait until after the first u/s (I'm still bitter about my FIL telling everyone and announcing it on FB before we finished first tri - after we specifically asked him to only tell close close friends/family).

Close friends we will tell as we see them. They will know something's up when I'm not drinking at tailgates this Fall. We will email/text/call remaining friends after 1st tri is over and will probably be "FB official" after our a/s. At least that's how we did it last time.

  • I've told my mom and some people at work, but for everyone else, we're thinking of waiting til DS's first bday party in October so we can put him in a big brother tshirt. I think I'll be around 14ish weeks at that point.

  • We told immediate family at the beginning when we found out, then when we saw the hb we made it fb official. I know that's early to some but we have a lot of out of state family so we didn't mind.  Whatever happens won't matter if we tell or not and if something does happen it will be nice to have family and friends support and not having to grieve alone with my H.

I need this shirt! So cute. Where did you find it?

  • We told our families when we saw them. Close friends we have been telling in person as we see them. The rest of the world will find out when I'm in 2nd tri.

  • Work probably around my 12 weeks. Family when I show and friends after 25 weeks because I had 3 premature births and 2 were before 30 weeks.
  • With our miscarriage we were so excited that we told people right away and then had to turn around & tell them about our loss, then with the ectopic we only told our parents, so it was nice to have their support, and we didn't have to explain our loss to everyone again, so that's why I want to wait until later on in this pregnancy

@jmhansen11 I bought it from Etsy, there are ones with a bow or a mohawk too if you know the gender when you buy it.

It will be on Facebook at 12-14 weeks, and we will tell our families after our ultrasound at 8 weeks. My sister and best friend already know, as well as my co-teacher at school. My assignment is changing after Labor Day, so I may need to let a couple other teachers in on the secret at that point, too.

  • After trying for 2 years, we did IVF and were successful on the first time. We told our parents right away and shared with some close friends that new what was going on at 6 weeks (after first ultrasound). We will share with the world at 12 weeks. I cannot wait to tell people about our miracle.
  • I saw a heart beat at 6w5d so I announced after. I used an eviction notice on my daughter's crib with her in the picture.
  • We did in vitro and I asked for prayers on Facebook the whole way, so I shared on Facebook the day after I found out. I felt that those who prayed the whole time for me deserved to know almost as soon as we did.
  • We told my parents and DH's family today. We'll tell my brothers and everyone else in a few weeks after our first appointment. :)

I always said I'd wait until after thr first trimester... This is pregnancy #3 and I have yet to wait that long, lol!
  • We told our immediate family, but will wait until we hit about 12 weeks to announce it to the world aka Facebook.

  • I already told my parents (and grandparents because they asked and knew about IVF) and a few close/best friends.  I plan to tell MIL after our u/s tuesday (and maybe another friend or two).  We may tell a few more friends after our 8 week u/s, but we'll wait to announce publicly and at work until around 13 weeks.

  • Announcing on 10/1. Our anniversary. I'll be 13 weeks.
  • My very close friends already know but we will wait to tell family and everyone else at 20 weeks after the a/s. Since we had difficulty getting pregnant (went through rounds of IUIs w/my first LO and this pregnancy) it just feels better this way.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

    5 IUIs to get BFP w/baby #1
    3 IUIs to get BFP w/baby #2
Lost baby #2 at nearly 12 weeks (D&C on 9/19/14)
  • Going to announce at 17 weeks or so. Probably at thanksgiving. Miscarriage earlier this year at 11.5 weeks, had already told everyone so not going to this time. Sometimes I want just wait for a healthy birth first. Had 1 set of twins 10 years ago. Nothing til now...hopefully more.
  • We told family this weekend. I'll be 6 weeks on Tuesday. Next weekend I have a race at which I will be wearing a "You just got passed by a pregnant triathlete!" Shirt. Since our 4 year old found out se has been telling everyone anyway so I figure we mine as well share the news. My husband can't keep a secret anyway so he's happy to tell ASAP!
  • Parents and siblings at 11 weeks (as long as we have had our first ultrasound by then), close friends and family at 12 weeks, work sometime after that (around thanksgiving or earlier if m/a gets too bad), then the Facebook world sometime after that ..
  • m/s* and thanksgiving in canada is Oct. 13 so I would be 15 weeks then. sorry, can't figure out how to edit on the mobile app.
  • Told immediate family, a couple of close friends, and my boss already. Given my experience with my losses it was great to have their support regardless. I probably won't be blog and Facebook official until after the anatomy scan at 18 weeks or so.
