PIO injections needle question

Hi ladies- DH and I just noticed that CVS gave us both 1'' and 1 1/2'' needles for my PIO injections. I'm pretty sure this was a mistake...but either way, the standard and what I've used in the past is the 1 1/2''. We are now out of the longer ones and I just want to make sure that it's getting deep enough with the shorter ones. I found one site about IM injections that said 1'' is fine, but most IVF sites refer to the longer ones.

Do any of you happen to be using the shorter, 1'' needles for your injections?

Re: PIO injections needle question

  • I don't do this but the depth should be based on your body type. If you are on the thinner side, 1" might be what you need. If not, 1.5" is usually standard.

When giving IMs, I use 1.5" unless the patient is smaller.

I draw it up with the 18 then switch it to a 25 for the injection. I'm petite, so thinking the 1'' is probably ok based on a chart I found. I'm just not sure how many we've accidentally done with these smaller needles! DH always preps/injects and he just noticed this morning that they weren't all the samee length. Waiting for call back from IVF nurse. geeez, it seems like it's always something with this stuff

    Thanks @klt2015‌

ETA: oops, draw up with 18 not 22
  • I use an 18 to draw up and 22 to inject, and it's 1.5" - I'm tiny and they never gave me the option of doing 1" to inject. I'd check with your doctor or nurse to see what they recommend.

Is anyone else at the point of just being so sore from injects? I am not complaining! But the tenderness really hit me this week!

Yes! I just started noticing it over the last couple of days. I was all braggy at my RE appointment earlier this week when he was shocked that I wasn't sore yet. Guess I spoke too soon.
