Anyone else having heart rate problems?

I've posted before but I continue to have elevated heart rate at least once it twice a day. Ranges from 120 to around 180. I've told doctor a couple of times. Acts like it's no big deal. Of course it's not doing it when I'm there. Blood pressure fine. I hear it's normal when I google it. Wasn't sure if any of you ladies are experiencing it. I'm keeping track of it with an app on my phone.

Re: Anyone else having heart rate problems?

  • I have the same thing.  My heart rate will be really high but my blood pressure is normal.  I have been tracking and asked my Dr and they said as long as I'm not having chest pains that it's fine

  • I have this but I have a diagnosed heart condition. Pregnancy does weird stuff to your body and puts extra pressure on the heart. Often it will go away after you have the baby. Keep track and make sure your doctor knows what's going on but you're probably just fine. I was told that having a racing heart rate can elevate my risk of a stroke, particularly if it happens frequently during the day, everyday for a longtime, rather than just once in awhile. So, I cut out other risk factors and regularly see a cardiologist.

Heart stuff is scary but your heart is designed to keep ticking so don't panic! Drink water, lay down, focus on breathing. Just keep your doctor informed and if it keeps bugging you, go see a cardiologist.

  • Glad that you've already asked your OB about it. :)

I've dealt with that in both pregnancies. My OB said it was normal & just due to my heart working harder to pump the additional blood volume (no bp issues), which makes sense.  She said to sit down and rest when it happens, and that if it didn't pass after a few minutes to go into L&D. It's not a fun feeling.

  • I have the same thing; it happened with my last pregnancy too. They actually put me on a monitor for a couple days to track it but everything checked out normal so my doc wasn't worried! And this time around they don't seem concerned about it so I'm just rolling with it.
I hate it though, when it starts up it makes me feel so nervous and antsy! I have to tell myself, "no, your fine, it's just your heart." Haha
  • Yeah it's not fun. I can handle the 120 but 180 HR sux. You can see my chest pounding and blood pumping in my neck. It's gross.

  • I had issues with this earlier on in my pregnancy. It doesn't happen as often anymore. I had an echocardiogram and everything was fine. It made me feel better to have it checked out and know for sure there isn't something serious going on. Maybe getting it checked out further would ease your mind too.
  • Same here- ob sent me to cardiologist and I had EKG which confirmed rapid heartbeat. Cardiologist says just let her know if it gets worst. Try to drink plenty of fluids. Are you anemic- could also be the issue.
  • I thought this was a normal symptom of pregnancy. Because we have more blood volume now, the heart has to pump faster to push it around... Paging one of our board nurses to reply please!
i thought the same! my heart rate gets crazy at night, which causes asthma attacks, but i haven't heard anything from my ob. i'm so glad i'm switching doctors soon! <3 i totally get having a doctor who blows off scary concerns. i'm really sorry you're going through that!

  • I think I had a couple episodes with my 1st pregnancy. I'll be 38 in November. And officially in 3rd trimester. I think I've had some hormone changes in the past couple weeks. I wonder if that doesn't have anything to do with it. Baby is getting bigger and my ribs are starting to hurt. Having a lot more aches and pain in the upper part of my stomach. I'm going through the wake up in the middle of the night panicking about how I'm going to get kids on the bus and have a newborn. You know all the changes that we were about that end up just fine yet we worry.
