Stay at Home Moms

New SAHM!

Hey ladies! I am a FTM and going to be SAHM as soon as my leave is up. My baby girl is 4 weeks old. I'm curious what things you ladies have done to stay in touch with "adults" and not so isolated. I'm content being home with my baby girl. And I know when we get more into a schedule getting out for more will be easier. So what has been helpful to you all. And what not so much? Anything you do that you recommend?! Any advise for a new SAHM?

  • Did your employer know you were not planning to come back? If you told them you would be returning but now you don't plan to, you could be on the hook for any benefits you received during maternity leave. Just an fyi

No they do not know. But I'm covered by my husbands benefits.

That's good. I've heard of people being required to pay back medical expenses, disability, etc. I would hate to see that happen to someone else who didn't expect it.

  • Welcome! My DD is 4 weeks too!

I would get out now. At this age, they are so much easier to take out than once they get older.

I am fortunate that I have a lot of other SAHM friends that we have playdates with. I met all of the through our church. During the year, we have a weekly bible study that has childcare and fellowship. That's pretty much my adult interaction.

    GL and congrats!

  • You need to meet other sahm's because your working friends are going to be at work during the day.  So once your baby is old enough find a couple local libraries and join their storytime.  Check out meetup.com and see if there are any mom groups in your area.  If you attend a church see if they have any mom groups.
  • Hi!
Check out your local library as well, ours does a special Babytime Storytime once a week for ages newborn through 18 months. It's mostly singing and nursery rhymes and a story or two but it's a great place to meet other new moms and less chaotic than regular storytime.

  • We moved when my LO was 16 months old and I found a wonderful moms group on meetup.com. We have play dates multiple times a week and there are at least 5 moms that I am super close with. Good luck!
  • Thanks for all the input ladies! Looking forward to this new adventure in life!
