December 2014 Moms

Back to school

I see all these posts about teachers going back to school but what about the student momma-to-bes?? School started this week for me :-( im in my last year of my bachelors program which is awesome but I'm finding it super hard to even concentrate on my school work with all this baby stuff running around in my head. Thankfully, classes should end right before I'm due and then I'll have a month break between semesters. Here's to a good semester! If I can just get off the bump and open my books lol. Good luck to all you students out there!!

Re: Back to school

  • I was in college when I got pregnant with my first and graduated right before he turned one. It's not easy, but so so very worth it!

    Good luck!!!

  • I'm a grad student but I'm done taking classes. I'm just finishing my dissertation this semester... Hopefully before the baby comes! Maybe we could have some mom to be school check-ins during the fall semester?

  • I finally made a decision on whether or not to take this next semester off the other day. I'm going to go back. I start Thursday and it's my last year of my bachelor's. Now this means I have to buy a few supplies and maybe some clothes for the bump. :-$

  • Thinking of you! I was working full-time, a mom, and getting my Master's degree two years ago! It was so hard, but so very worth it! Hang in there!!

  • I'm in my last year of nursing school and I definitely agree that focus is super hard to keep. With school, work, and the excietment of the baby it's a lot. But the struggle will be so worth it!
  • Good luck to you!
  • Start the next term on Sept 3. I go over my independent study plan with a professor/mentor that week.

I'm excited, yet anxious. I'm hoping it won't be too much to juggle these last few months of pregnancy.

  • I got a full year off because med school doesn't have the concept of semesters or credit hours. Was between a year or 2-3 weeks in December ((eye-roll)) I am getting jealous of everyone getting back to work though. I feel like I'm behind even if I know it's okay not to be studying. I'm sure I'll stop worrying about it completely come Dec though :P

  • I'm also working full time and working on my dissertation proposal. I was so hopeful for all the work I would get done this summer...yea that didn't work out so well. My Fall semester starts Sept. 15th. The only "class" I have to attend is a dissertation proposal seminar. The good thing is we only meet 4 times the entire semester. My goal is to defend my proposal at the end of this semester before baby comes! Good luck to you!!

  • Thanks guys! I'm so glad to see other bumpees in my boat. I guess it's more of a "misery loves company" type thing. Lol. But really I do enjoy going to school. It'll just be a tough final year but I'm ready to knock it out.
  • I'm not currently a student mama-to-be, but I was in grad school when I got pregnant with DD1. I got pregnant at the beginning of my last semester of classes (and I was a TA), so I took the fall semester off for her birth in October, then finished up my thesis the spring and summer and graduated in August 2007. I got pregnant with DD2 two months later. :D

So, been there, and good luck to you all. It's not easy, but SO worth it!
