NPR: Anyone From Boston?

I am planning an anniversary trip for DH and I to either Chicago or Boston.  We have been to Chicago so I am leery to plan a trip to the unknown city (boston).

Anyone live there?  What part of the city should we stay in?  Any good hotel reccomendations that aren't crazy expensive?

We might want to see the Freedom Trail, Fenway, Salem Witch tour, Harvard, etc.

I have been scouring Expedia.com but am overwhelmed!

  • The new Verb Hotel just opened up around Fenway.  Not sure of the pricing but it looks really cool!

Also the Seaport area is a cool place to stay but isn't super close to the T if that's how you are planning to get around. But there are a few different hotel choices down there - Seaport Hotel, Radisson, Weston - and a bunch of restaurants.

  • I second the looking up the Liberty Hotel. It's really cool and has great bars and restaurants. Also the Freedom trail is pretty much walking and historic houses and I would strongly recommend just doing a duck boat tour instead. I live near Salem but my husband and I both work in Boston and if you'd really like to see Salem it's an easy train or ferry ride from the city, but seriously don't go in October. Salem in October is a madhouse.

  • If you are really on a budget, I've stayed at the Newbury Guesthouse and it was a cute, small inn. Nothing fancy but clean, comfortable, awesome location and great breakfast. If you go to Salem, skip the witch tour and go to the Peabody Essex museum and House of Seven Gables.
