S/O Bribery & rewards

So I need to bribe Reese to take her medicine. They taste AWFUL---I licked it and could barely tolerate it--I can't imagine a 3 year old ever liking it. So right now I am in full on bribery mode to get her take it less begrudgingly where she doesn't gag and almost throw it up. I need ideas. I am going to see if I could teach her to swallow a pill and put the medicine in a spoonful of applesauce--I will ask her doctors on Monday about it.

It has to be something that can instantly be given---like right after it. Once in the morning and once at night. Right now we are doing 10 gummy bears for each dose. But even that she would rather chose no gummy bears over taking the medicine.

It is til Thursday--so 12 different bribes.

Then we have a week off, and it starts again for another week.

  • Right now it is liquid. I mean there is NO thing that I can even describe as close to what this tastes like. Just think of the worst tasting thing in the world and then multiply it by 50!

I am hoping that I can see about getting it in a pill form and putting that in applesauce and have her swallow it that way.

But I can't ask them about it until Monday when we take her to the doctors again.

I feel so bad for her.

  • Can the pharmacy flavor the meds? That's what we do with DD's.
They did....didn't help really. It made it "slightly" less awful, but still awful tasting.

She cries when I give it to her and said says "it is too yucky for me"

I seriously want to give her EVERYTHING to take it.

  • I am so sorry to hear this. That sucks. It's not healthy, but would adding a little sugar help (a la Mary Poppins)? Hope you find something that makes it less horrible for her :-(

Can you make jello with it or something? Sheesh, that sounds truly horrible. For Char a littl glass of OJ right after might help, but she's never taken anything THAT bad.
Right now I am hesitant to mix it with food or something just because she has NO appetite, and I am afraid she won't get the full dose.

I have been reasoning with her--and that works sometimes. She knows that yucky medicines keep her healthy. But knowing does not equal wanting to take it. She took it with less gagging this morning--still a lot of complaining. I had a new play-doh set on the table and a plate of gummy bears to chase the awful flavor and a cup of water to wash it out of her mouth.

  • So....if any of you are on the edge of your seats waiting for a descriptive version of how it tastes...DH licked the medicine dropper and pretty much stated it is the liquid form of how aspirin tastes if it dissolves in your mouth.

    BLECH!

We promised her a trip to the store tomorrow. The park was today.

I think we will be going broke by the end of the week.
