Nervous it's going to be twins!

We have our first appt on wednesday and i have been freaking myself out by reading too many articles online! Lol. Obviously, i would rather have 2 healthy babies than 1 not healthy one, and the health is all that matters. But still, the idea of one baby is daunting enough! I have been feeling sooooo queasy (24/7 no matter the time of day or what i eat). A lot of articles said the sicker you feel the more likely it is that it's multiples. Has anyone else heard this? Or any STMs with twins that can corroborate that?

Re: Nervous it's going to be twins!

  • I was feeling this way too... Had to finally step away from google because I was giving myself panic attacks. We had our first u/s yesterday and the whole time I was nervous they were going to say two babies.... But low and behold, just ONE!! This is my first pregnancy and my Dr said a lot of women feel this way. So my advice, step away from the computer and wait until Wednesday! And if it does happen to be twins, then twice the blessings!!! <:-P

  • I have had two pregnancies where I was sick all the time but never any twins. I understand the fear though, I will be excited to have an ultrasound and hopefully see one healthy baby.

  • Haha i definitely need to follow that advice! I think being a ftm doesn't help because i'm so anxious and second guessing everything... Going with the flow isn't my strong suit to begin with.

  • I was so, so sick with my first. I had HG and threw up about 8 times a day until 15 weeks. Just one baby though! Trust me, one baby can make you so sick you don't think you'll make it through the first tri!

  • That is a huge concern for me. Twins are super common in my family but on the men's side(my dad is a twin) so I'm hoping I don't get it lol. We have a lot of moving coming in our near future due to military and moving with one 1 month old is already going to be a challenge I couldn't imagine with 2. We are super excited and obviously would be so happy even if we had 2 healthy babies as jk3610 said better 2 healthy than 1 unhealthy.
  • Klocky, i have multiples on both my mom's side and my dad's side and there haven't been any in a few generations. That plus my gratuitous googling has me freaked lol. I figured either my sister or i would get slammed with twins and she had ONE baby in april. Fx!

  • I've had "twin signs" for over a year. Dreams. I have twin brothers and I will die if I'm having twins. But I do not feel sick at all so maybe I'm good!? 6 weeks....and counting.
  • Nervous giggle, nervous giggle...

I definitely have a fear of twins too. Mine is an irrational terror, not because of symptoms or twins in the family. I just can't imagine two babies and once! Lord bless mums of multiples. That being said, we'd have twice the help when we are old and need help bathing...

  • That is good to hear. There is a part of me that thinks twins would be a blast. But i have a mood disorder though and am unsure how i would cope with the stress of 2 babies and financially having to still work. I have so much respect for working moms, especially those with more than one!!!

  • I have had dreams I am having twins.
  • There are lots of things that can affect the severity of MS. If you have a tendency towards motion sickness, for example. Higher hormones are not always indicative of twins. And think about it this way: you have absolutely no control over it. Stressing about what may be will not do you any good.
  • I think every woman is terrified that there will be more than one baby in there. I remember with my first I was showing enough by my first appt that my doctor thought it was twins.
  • Big concern for me too. I have a brother and sister who are twins AND two brothers who are twins! My Mom and Dad both remarried and ended up w them. My moms side is the one that counts if I remember correctly but STILL, who has two sets of natural twins lol. Good luck!
  • I'm with you, I'm TERRIFIED of having twins. I keep having dreams about it. I'm a small girl, carrying one child was hard enough by the 3rd trimester. Kudos to the mothers of multiples!

  • Has anyone found out if they are having twins??? My 2 yr old told me a little over a week ago I was pregnant with 2 babies... After 2 days of her continuing to talk about it I took a test 12 dpo and got a positive!!! Bloodwork came back the next day as very early with a 27 hcg and 25.5 progesterone... I think twins would be fun and nerve wrecking all at the same time. I have 15 sets of fraternal twins and 3 sets of triplets spanning from my great grandmother to my kids generatin. It is abnormal in our family to be a singlet so I'm more than a little nervous! My last 2 pregnancies were filled with all day sickness from 4 weeks to delivery but this time minimal sickness thus far... It's still early! I'd love to hear if anyone is having twins!!!
  • It really truly is an awesome thing! But I get the anxiety... I'm nervous this time too. As it is, this pregnancy is a surprise, we thought 4 was enough. Still getting used to the idea of 5 kids. I don't know what I would do if we jumped to 6!

Not to freak you out--but that was exactly my mom's story. She was 32 with 4 kids already and had not planned on a 5th. She ended up pregnant. 6 weeks before delivery she found out it was twins--this was 31 years ago before technology was better at catching this. The day she found out I remember her crying the WHOLE day. I also remember my dad getting up and making a frantic phone call as soon as my mom told him. He was calling his doctor to find out how to go about getting fixed! Ha! 31 years later those boys are pretty awesome!
