Buyers remorse? NBR

We sold our house and put an offer on a new house this past Sunday. It was accepted and everything is moving forward. The house is great but the yard isn't exactly what we're looking for. We have a 5 year old lab and he loves our current fenced in yard but we'll have a much smaller yard and he'll have to be on a leash while outside. I'm still getting new listings and think I am having a bit of buyers remorse. I may be kind of freaking our about our new mortgage too. Is this normal?!?

  • Are you still in the option period? If so, you can always back out! I'm sure a little bit of uncertainty is normal with such a gigantic purchase, but I'd at least want to be 110% comfortable with the mortgage.

I still have major buyers remorse and we've lived in our house for nearly 4 years. We'd just started looking when we found it, and, while it's a gorgeous house, it's really not my style. We should have looked longer (which my DH wnated to do), and been totally sure about what features were important to us.

  • I think this feeling is totally normal! We are in the process of buying a new home and I keep having similar thoughts. It's tough! We saw the house twice before putting in an offer and after the offer was in it's like I forgot what half the house looked like. I pictured the yard so much smaller than it is and the upstairs way differently. It's a huge purchase to make with, sometimes, very little time to think about it -- at least in our case.
I'm still getting listings sent to me and I torture myself by looking at them and seeing what else I could have gotten for my money. Remember the listings always make the place look really good but chances are the place might not look as good in person. Also remember, there was a reason you put an offer on this place. Something must have outweighed the size of the yard. Maybe you're in a great neighborhood, or good school district, or the house itself was enough to make up for the small yard.
  • Thanks for the advice everyone! We can't put up a fence but there is a really nice dog park about a mile from the new house. I knew I shouldn't have opened those damn emails! :)
  • When we bought our 1920s house it had a "retaining wall" aka a 2 foot tall red brick wall around the property. The houses to the left and right were all connected by the same fence. My late Saint Bernard simply walked right over it and partied in my neighborhood until the dog catcher came for him, (a kind neighbor called complaining of a vicious giant dog! Kujo?), he put my dog back in my house and left me a note that my dog was the nicest dog he'd ever met. We built a redwood fence that weekend. My DH and his BFF built it in 2days, we have a 10sqft back yard. Fences aren't hard nor too expensive if you DIY.
