Pertussis vaccine...decreased movement

Anyone had the dtap (or is it tdap?) vaccine? I had it at my appt today and it's wiped me out. I've been running around a lot today and realized a couple of hours ago that I hadn't felt baby move much today. I just had dinner and dessert and am now laying on left side for kick count. Just a little in twenty minutes...she's usually really active. Obviously I'll call if I don't get 10 in an hour, but while I'm laying here and mildly freaking out...anyone know if the vaccine could have affected her activity since it's made me super tired? TIA!

Re: Pertussis vaccine...decreased movement

  • Not sure. That didn't happen to me. It seems like it may be a coincidence. I've had bouts of decreased movement though. Baby girl usually just gets stuck in my pelvis or behind my anterior placenta. How's the kick count going?

  • Not related to vaccine but on days I am really busy I don't notice her move much and my MW said that was normal. Give her time to reach the quota.

  • Kick count's going ok. Been laying down for about 35 minutes and I'm around 6. For some reason I thought it was one hour. Either way, I'm on my feet and on the move most days so I don't feel a ton during the day but she's usually off the wall when I finally sit down after dinner and the bit of movement I am feeling seems very slow and weak. Thanks for the input.

This LO gets really sluggish after a large meal. Maybe it was dinner?

Maybe it was dinner...we went for Mexican and my husband said, "what do you expect, you jus piled all that Mexican on top of her!" I think her kick count will be ok. The lack of the vigorous movement us what worries me...I know it happens with less room, but she was super active last night.

  • I've noticed decreased movement when I'm particularly active. I think the motion of my activity lulls him to sleep so he takes longer naps.

    Good luck!! :)

  • 10 in 2 hours is what it should be.
That depends on the guidelines your OB gives you. 10 in an hour is pretty standard, then drink juice and try another hour. But mine also said to call if it takes significantly longer than "usual" at the normal kick count time -- which for me would mean a call if it has been 20 minutes. (At the time I do kick counts, LO usually is done in 5-10 minutes).
This. If it took my babe an hour (or two, goodness) to move 10 times, I'd be scared like crap. Either he's obviously asleep or he's all over the place in there.

OP, I'm happy that everything is all better.

  • Of course you shouldn't ignore the kick count and I have zero medical training however I had the vaccine a few days ago and the next day I was done for.  I slept on and off for most of the day (luckily I was off work) and generally felt like crap.  I noticed the baby's movements were slow too and can only assume that it was because she probably felt the same as me!  She is now back to normal and using my insides as a punching bag. I don't know if it was all a coincidence but I was also concerned and almost called my OB about it too.
