Walkers

Does anyone know of a baby walker that won't scratch my wood floors? I've been looking for a walker with rubber wheels but don't think they exist...
Please don't flame me for wanting a walker for LO, we have no steps he can fall down and he's already pulling himself up to stand.

Re: Walkers

  • I have one , no idea it was flame worthy . We have 2 dogs the walker is the least of my worries when it comes to scratching the floor !

  • Could you try those furniture feet felt pads? The few 'modern day' walkers I've seen here in Canada have plastic wheels that lock. Maybe stick a felt pad to each locked wheel?

The last time I saw a real walker was 1985-ish and my aunt had a baby gate that has also been banned. (This at the top of a tall flight of stairs...while she cut & permed hair and smoked in her kitchen)

You can't even buy one in Canada! The only reason I know this is because a friend went into Michigan to buy one... :)

I just saw one advertised on Kijiji. Lol.
And the lady went on and on about knowing they were illegal.

  • My now 14 year old went down stairs in a walker... he laughed.  Not at all the typical outcome of that situation and also the best.  We do have a walker and being vigilant is of course a necessity, Levi loves it, he giggles when he zooms backwards in the kitchen.  We only use it for 5-10minutes at a time, often while I'm emptying dishwasher or something.  We have a door to the basement steps so of course as long as it remains closed I'm pretty chill.
  • Yes @lincbeesmom  that is a walker, the other that @twaffle5 shows is a walkalong/push toy. Or,  that is the way I refer to them.
  • No flaming here! My mom said I used to practically live in my walker I loved it so much. I think if you keep an eye on them or at least close off the area so they can't walk out, it's all good.

Right now pedi docs are recommending against the walker not only for safety, but they claim that since baby is mobile it lessens their need to want to be mobile on their own, and it strengthens the wrong part of the legs to help them walk. So if anything with a walker I would just limit the amount of time LO spends in it.

Instead the exersaucer is the alternative that is recommended. We just got one last week and LO is obsessed with it. We call it the command center lol

The plastic round bottom should work great on your wood floors.

This is the one we got: EvenFlo Exersaucer

LO also loves the jumperoos that they have at his daycare:

I was contemplating getting one, but now that we have the exersaucer I am officially out of room for any more baby equipment.

    Hope this helps!

@Ceventa‌ that's the Exersaucer we have and DD loves it!! But like anything else it doesn't hold her attention for super long, thus why we also have a walker. Here is Howie trying it out before the baby came.
OMG my aunt gave us the same one in blue! LOL that's awesome

He really loves this car one too, we locked it to keep it in place so he didn't move around. I know what you mean though, after a while he would get bored in it. So we got the other exersaucer and all of the stuff on it seems to keep him entertained longer, plus it bounces a lot easier too which I think he likes. Now I keep the car in my bedroom so that he has one in there to play with too.

  • Another walker casualty here! Like PP said, they are illegal to sell here. I saw one on a local swap and the listing was yanked by admin in under 3 minutes.

Are you guys talking about the walkers you put babies in or the ones the push? Just curiosity

I'm asking about the ones you put them in to sit and walk as they please.

I wonder if that why I can't find the one I saw on kijiji. I was going to post the ad here. Someone must have reported it because I couldn't find it a few hours later.
