aupair/nanny question about clean-up

Is it reasonable to ask my aupair to put toys back where they are supposed to be?  Whenever I get home, their rooms and play rooms appear picked up, but when I try to find toys to play with, they are all jumbled together.  Legos, wood blocks, puzzle pieces, imaginext guys, hotwheels, etc. are all mixed up in 5 baskets instead of being separated out into 5 baskets.   Honestly, I would rather just have them out on the floor.  They are impossible to play with like this, and I end up organizing them myself over the weekend.

Would you say something or just let it go?

Re: aupair/nanny question about clean-up

  • I'd say something in passing but not make it a major deal.  Of course, I'm not picky about this sort of thing.  So if this drives you crazy, talk to her about it but don't get too fussed about it.

  • I would say something but be relaxed about it.
  • How old are your littles? (I'm on mobile). I would casually tell her to please sort the toys so that your little ones learn they have a proper place as well.

  • How old are they?  Daycare started teaching the kiddos to put away the toys in the correct place (pictures on the shelves) starting in the toddler room.

You could bring it up as teaching the kids to put away their toys properly.
  • I would go for picture labels and tell her you are working on the kids cleaning up after themselves.

  • How old are your kids?  If you want to make it a "work with them to put things where they belong", great.

But if your kids are young and she's doing this all on her own - think about what you want.  her to clean up quickly and keep her focus on the kids.  or take more time and sort?  I realize sorting won't take THAT much longer, but at the same time - the more she has to focus on the toys, that's less time to focus on the kids.

Again, this is age dependent, though.
