Video monitor question

Hi ladies! Back again with a baby gear question. Starting to research video baby monitors. Based on reviews online it seems like every monitor has some pros and cons but for those that are currently using one... what model do you have and would you recommend it? I heard the Summer brand is good and we have an opportunity to buy a rarely used one for more than half off. Of course I will test it out before purchasing to make sure it works properly.

Is panning really important or color and two way talk? Any other feature that you find helpful?

Thanks in advance as always.

Re: Video monitor question

  • So sorry about that. Just saw that a similar question was asked on August 6. Whoops. Of course I didn't see it until I hit send. I will read that thread but if anyone has anything else to add, I would love to know. Thanks again!

  • I have a Summer brand monitor but have been less happy with it the longer I have used it.  My boys are now 3.5 and almost 2 and I have had to replace the monitor and there has been 2 battery recalls.  The casing on the monitor cracks really easy.  The farther away the camera is from the bed, the harder it is to see my kids (and when they are older and more mobile it needs to be farther away).

I am looking to buy the Motorola video monitor that has the pan, zoom, and two way talk feature which I will have in each bedroom.

  • @jlk6 and @shelleyella22 Do you know what Summer models you have? Thanks for chiming in.
  • I have the slim and secure (I believe it's called sleek and secure now)

  • We have the Motorola one and love it - I actually need to order a second camera for the new baby's room. My only complaint is that you can't turn the sound completely off (when he's screaming we can hear him just fine without the monitor amplifying it, we just want to be able to see what he's doing while he's screaming!).

As for your question about panning etc - we haven't used the panning feature yet but I'm sure we will once he's in a big boy bed. Color is no big deal, makes no difference really (the night vision, which is when you'll be looking at baby most of the time, is black and white anyway). We also haven't used the two-way talking, not sure if we ever will.

  • I have the Summer Infant Baby Tough and like it. You have to mount it high in the corner of the room, but you can see really clearly. I always have it turned to the lowest volume setting because it picks up the sound really well. There really isn't anything I don't like about it!

Thanks! Do you mean the Baby Touch?
  • Have the summer infant slim & secure. I love it. Panning & color do not make any difference. I can see & here my son just fine. Even works great in my backyard. I don't see why you would need two way talk with it. I'm very happy with this model & plan on buying another camera for my new arrival. Would highly recommend it
