High-Risk Pregnancy

Cholestasis?

Hi all, I'm not sure if I need to intro on this board, but here's a little background on me. This is my third pregnancy, due on Sept 30, my first pregnancy ended in stillbirth 8 years ago, I have a healthy baby boy born 5 years ago at 34 weeks. He ended up being diagnosd with neonatal lupus which has since lead to my own diagnosis of Lupus. I have had a few flares over the last couple years, but had been 8 months flare-free upon getting pregnant this time around! Anyway, that's me in a nutshell...onto the topic at hand. I am now being tested for cholestasis (which I'm quite certain will come back positive based on my symptoms) and was wondering if anybody here has any experience with this?! As I type this, I'm currently awake in the middle of the night, uncontrollably scratching the bottom of my feet. Ugh, I don't know how much more of this I can take! Any advice?!

Re: Cholestasis?

  • * lurker* I had this with ds. They did blood work and put me on pill after couple days sweet relief from itching( feel your pain) I think they then monitored my liver enzymes. I had him not long after at 34 weeks! Good luck!

  • Thanks for your reply! Can I ask, were you induced or did he come on his own at 34 weeks?
  • Sorry I didn't see your question. I went into preterm labor , they stopped it and then let me have him at 34 weeks. Not sure if it was the cholestasis or an uti that I had that I had no symptoms. Either way this time got cerclage just as a precaution . Good luck! Have you gotten relief?

  • I had this with my first (and luckily ended up not getting it with my second). I was diagnosed at 36 and 5 and induced the next day. Typically you should not be allowed to go past 37 weeks as that is the most dangerous time for the baby for those with cholistasis.
I had biweekly bile acid tests with this pregnancy to be sure I wasn't developing it.
You can also google ICP support for a lot of help and information and they have a Facebook group
