So I'm usually only on The Knot, but I have to ask if anyone else has friends that are having trouble TTC? I'm getting married in June, so I'm thinking about a family over the next few years. It's been easy to think about getting married, going off BC and just getting pregnant. My best friend has been TTC for 2+ years now, they've done all the testing and there is no reason they shouldn't conceive. Another friend of mine is going in for surgery on an ectopic pregnancy that occurred while she had an IUD. I've never thought about fertility issues but now I am realizing just how common it can be. Anybody else with this experience?
Re: Friends with trouble TTC?
that is average.?
For me it has been with my sisters. I am the youngest of four girls and all of my older sisters have had issues. One of my sisters is moving onto adoption this year because they can't take TTC anymore.
After 4 years, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs our surprise miracle is here!

Most of my friends were PG within the first few months of TTC, but I do know a few who have been trying for over a year (or more). It is more common than you may realize. And it takes the average healthy couple about 6 months to get PG. Bascially, when you decide to start TTC, don't expect it to happen right away.
However, def. be prepared for it to happen right away - I have one friend who was told they would have Trouble TTC, so they decided to start trying a year before they were really ready, assuming it would be a year of trying on their own, then they would move on to fertility treatments. Well, she got PG the first month, and they were (and still are to an extent) soooo stressed because they weren't financially ready for it, and they had to go on WIC and now she is working more than she originally wanted to.
I only have one friend that it took 2 years for them to conceive...but I think they were only really TTC for almost a year..she was just off BCP for 2.
Not that I "wish" more of my friends would have problems..but it would be nice to have someone to relate with me that is close to me...but unfortunately all of my other friends have been on BCP and have gotten PG or had oppsies...lovely I know....
I don't have any friends that have mentioned it too me, but who knows (I know they say 1 in 6 (?) couples will have TTTC.
Maybe for my group that leaves me? It is more common that we ever think it is, but I'd say that's because most people don't talk about how long it took to conceive unless pregnancy happens more quickly than they were expecting.
My SIL's been trying for 6 years...But...
Word of caution: don't freak out about maybe you having TTTC because your friends do. I love my doc and SIL and both ALWAYS recommend "do not start trying until you are READY." Because, you won't know if you have issue until you try, and you may not (and may get preggers right away).
