Hi ladies!
I have just made the jump into the world of CDing with a 13 month old and one on the way (due in February). The thought of paying for Honest diapers for 2 kids was intimidating and it was the push I needed to start! I was always hesitant and scared of putting poop in my diaper but I can say that after today (my first day exclusively CD'ing) that I have conquered my fear!
At the suggestion of some friends I started out with just a few to see how I like it. I have 3 Rumarooz and 3 KerrBearKids pocket diapers. I have some questions which I realize might just be personal preference but I would appreciate any input you could provide.
1) Aplix vs. snap...right now I only have snaps but they seem like a pain in the ass. The snaps on the KBK diapers especially are difficult. How do you feel Aplix holds up? My daughter plays with her diapers sometimes and I'm afraid she will take it off.
2) Alvas - a few friends have suggested I get these as cheapies to build up a stash. Should I invest in better quality diapers hoping that they will hold up for 2 kids or are Alvas okay?
3) Insert fabrics - what' the deal with the different insert types? Is one type clearly better than others?
4) Coops...I have heard of them but no idea where to find them or how they work...help!
5) Suggest brands! I know it's a lot of personal preference, but if you
were building your stash from scratch who would you go with?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Intro/Newbie Questions!
I know you
1. I like aplix for newborn, snaps for OS. how well it holds up depends on the brand. Some is great, some is crappy. For example, bumgenius is hugely popular, but their aplix is terrible.
2. Alvas are basically the best of the super cheap. Kawaii is another brand to look at. Tiniest bit more expensive, but I like them better.
3. Microfiber is what comes with most diapers, and it is prone to issues. MF can have compression leaks, and tends to hold onto stink. Natural fibers are almost always a better bet. Hemp tends to hold the most but absorbs slower, so it is good to be paired with another fabric.
A tip if you are looking at alvas an kawaii is to buy from superstash.net. Great lady, best deals whe you factor shipping, and you have the option to pay less for the pocket without the inserts so you can buy others separately.
4. I don't know a whole lot about co ops, but I would be very wary if I were you. There are a lot of questions about these. Most reputable brands you can get good deals without resorting to co ops.
5. I personally preferred prefolds and covers until DS was almost a year and diapers changes became a wrestling match. Now we use a mix of prefolds and pocket diapers.
My personal recs: (These are all basically the cheapest you can get, while still having great quality)
Prefolds: https://www.nickisdiapers.com/indian-prefold-diapers-dozen.html
Covers: https://www.assuntastore.com/Diapering/Tiny-Diaper-Cover-p129.html
Pockets: https://www.superstash.net/kawaii-redesigned-square-tab-snap/

I have a few Alvas but only use them when I run out of disposables for DS. I much prefer prefolds and flats and fitteds with covers. I did buy some bum geniuses today though. Those are my preferred pocket brand.
When I use a pocket I stuff it with a flat. I have all the microfiber to DH to use as washing/waxing things for his truck. I hate MF.
I've never been part of a Co-op.
I buy my prefolds and flats from GMD. My covers usually come from a local store. I also buy BG. I buy my fitteds from Etsy and I also just purchased a few from Amazon.
2. I have a few alvas. I like them, but don't love them. They don't have a tummy pannel so if he is laying or falls asleep on his stomach we tend to get leaks. Also we get leaks if he sleeps on his side in these, but that could just be that they don't fit my kid well.
3. I prefer natural fabrics because they are harder to "mess up" My favorite pockets are thirsties one size because they come with a natural fabric insert. I haven't found another brand that does.
4. no idea
5. My favorites by far are the thirsties one size pockets and their duo covers. I also love best bottoms, grovia and blueberry. Bum genius is also pretty good. But again, all personal preference.
https://www.thirstiesoutlet.com/default.asp this is a good place to get discounted thirsties products, but you have to keep checking to see what they have in stock.
