Baby wouldn't eat

LO goes to a sitter 2 days a week when I work. Yesterday was his 2nd day. First day went perfect. She called me at 11am saying he was crying and wouldn't take the bottle. I told her he was probably tired and called back 20 min later and he was sleeping. Fast forward to 2pm and she calls again saying he napped and woke up and won't eat. She asked if I could come. I was sleeping because I worked night shift so I didn't have to leave work or anything. When I got there, he was happily sucking on his paci. I gave him the bottle and he took it right away. I then gave him to her and he drank the whole bottle. In the past, occasionally he would scream when I tried to feed him. Do you think he wasn't hungry? 7 hours seems like a long time during the day while he is awake. We give him a bottle daily since he was born to prepare him. I bf when I'm home. My husband also bottle feeds pumped milk when I'm working with no problem. I hope this was a 1 time thing because I can't run to get him every time he fusses or won't eat

  • 7hrs does seem really long. But this is coming from someone whose LO eats like clockwork every 2hrs during the day...

  • He probably was. But he was in a new environment with new people. Most kids react in some way. Some don't eat. Some don't sleep. Some cry all day.

Give it time. If he came home to eat then he just felt secure again. He will need time to adjust and decide he's okay with this change. Could take another day or two. Could take another week of two.

Don't stress. If you stress he will too. It Wil better better.

We had a problem earlier this week with LO not taking bottle from the new nanny (although he had taken bottles from other new/strange people in the past).   I was so stressed over it so I understand your worry.    My OALD had returned last week and I think he got used to a faster flow and was frustrated by the slow flow nipple.  We changed to a medium flow nipple and that seemed to do the trick.  He's taken several bottles from her now with no complaint.

  • My parents watched LO last weekend while we went out to dinner and she was super upset even before we brought her over there (I think it was a growth spurt or something), but they said she kept choking when they tried to give her the bottle.  They even put it in a different bottle and same thing.  When I got back to get her, she immediately drank it all fine.  I think she was just super upset and cranky, but it was the first time she ever had a problem taking a bottle as she is normally a great eater.  I am hoping she will not have this issue when she starts day care in a couple of weeks.
