Migraines :'(

Anyone else having terrible migraines?? What do you do to help?? Tylenol has not helped even the slightest. I've even tried to drink a bit of coke to help but it hasn't helped either. And it's been three days of misery.

Re: Migraines :'(

  • I had a really bad headache for 6 days straight. My head was pounding and it was really hard to function. I did Tylenol, peppermint oil, ice pack on head and behind neck and sleep. Nothing made it go away but the things I did helped. Sorry you are having to deal with this. Hope you feel better soon

  • I had a migraine as well as several headaches for at least a week and a half. I had to make sure to drink plenty of water, esp before bed (although it does suck bc I was basically getting up three times a night). I did have to break down and take Tylenol once as well as get neck massages because I had so much tension. I hope you feel better!
  • My doctor has recommended I see a chiropractor and massage therapist. Making an appointment tomorrow!
  • Thank you guys! It's just about gotten to the point to where I can't drive. And food is making me nauseas and I just have to sit in the dark all the time :-/ I'm going to try everything you guys have suggested! Ice pack here I come!
  • I drink caffeine when I start to have blindness. I think that helps a little. My Dr. prescribed Tylenol 3 but I am scared to take it while I am pregnant. I keep it on hand in case I can't manage though. ;)

Good luck! I know it really sucks.

  • I get really bad migraines every once in a while. What helps me is taking some Tylenol, eating some saltine crackers for the nausea, laying down in a dark room with a cool washcloth over my eyes and temples. I have migraine medication, but I don't like to take it while pregnant. Sometimes sipping a little coke helps too.

  • Caffeine and relaxing or sleep does it for me. Keeping cool helps too. Everyone has different remedies and you just gotta try and see what works for you. I've had migraines since I was 13 so I know how to deal with mine.
  • I've had a ton of luck with accupressure massage. I tried ice packs, cool compresses, caffeine, Tylenol, dark chocolate, and while they temporarily made it not as terrible, only accupressure has been able to keep them away. I still have more minor headaches, but (knock on wood) I haven't had a serious migraine since I started.

  • I've had migraines since I was 8 yrs. old. The doctor says it can be inherited (thanks mom! lol!) I also have had (this makes 6) them worse with each pregnancy! What I have to do most the time is take a warm shower, try to eat and get a ice cold rag and place it across my forehead and temples and try to sleep it off! But now most the time I've realized that If I do get nauseated and throw up then it DOES make my mirgraines go away much much quicker! I so sorry hope you feel better very soon!
  • Excedrin Tension Headache! It is acetametaohin and caffenine...no NSAIDs. You're welcome.

  • I agree with a PP, everyone's sources of relief are different. I'll list mine in case they help.

If I'm not pregnant, I take Imitrex. There is at least one drug that you can take when pregnant. I asked my midwife, and she preferred me to keep using Tylenol. In her words, "if the Tylenol works, then just keep taking that." I told her that it sometimes helps and sometimes doesn't, and she still seemed to want me to stick with Tylenol. If I was having really bad migraines, I'd probably ask to at least try and alternative pregnancy-approved medication.

If I take Tylenol with a glass of Mountain Dew (for the caffeine) when the migraine is forming, it sometimes helps. Once it's a raging migraine, it doesn't do nearly as much, if anything, for me.

For me, sleep makes it worse. If I am not in debilitating pain, I try to do something non-strenuous to help distract me from the pain. I avoid anything that raises my heart rate, because that makes it worse.

Shoulder/neck massages can help relieve the pain a little, but certainly doesn't make it go away.

I like to be at an inclined angle if I need to rest. Lying down makes things worse for me. Sitting in a recliner listening to a good audiobook is a nice way for me to rest.

Sounds like you already have the light avoidance down pat.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon! Migraines are the worst.
  • Get to a chiropractor! I go as soon as I feel one coming on and it help 99% of the time.
  • I suffer with migraines every day, been in A & E also they were that bad where they wished to keep me on a morphine drip, i refused as no known risks to the baby - they stated i take Paracetamol & Coedine Phosphate every 4 hours, i use the dissolvable paracetamol as it tends to target the pain quicker; and also it doesnt cross the placenta - the coedine works however i will only take one of those if i am absolutely desperate.
