Fundraising ideas

II am on our local Women of the Moose board (and if you have a local one, check them out they are awesome) and we do a lot of charity work in our community. Last year we raised $7500 for Relay for Life, we also do toys for tots, local police force K-9 unit and for families in need, plus many more. I am organizing a vendor show(different vendors such as thirty-one, scentsy, Mary Kay) in one room where women can shop, we also do gun bashes, chicken roasts, bake sales and mystery dinners. I am also looking into getting a cookbook published. I know many fundraisers are over done, but as a mom/woman what do you like to see for fundraising? What do you think is overdone?

  • @gradschoolmom1234‌ I can see your point on the consumer end of it and we do host food drives, clothing drives and blood drives. It just gets hard to keep asking people for money without some kind of return other than kindness for charity. The current event/fundraiser I am looking to do is for a 14 year old boy that broke his spine while playing basketball, he is now walking but still lacks some feeling. We have donated gas cards and grocery cards to the family from misc funds we have, but we would like to help more. His insurance paid for so much therapy, but he continues to need it. ----------(my return doesn't always work)-------- Here's some more info on our organization, it is in the club by laws when we do a fundraiser or event the proceeds have to be clearly stated where the money will go. That's where it goes also(we do subtract costs) we have an International board that audits and makes sure we abide the laws of the club. We help local groups and members, the 14 year old boy's mother and father are both members. Toys for Tots and Relay for life are our big charities we do. We do dinners on Fridays. I personally am invested in the blood drives and try to have a Chinese auction but it gets hard to get donations. The vendor show, I have a lot of local women right now that sell the main items like Scentsy, Thirty-One, but we have a young woman trying to open a bakery selling baked goods, we have a woman who does crafts, one that quilts and many more.

  • Our Toys for Tots is a dinner, it is $20 a plate and we have two meals that night. The first is more casual (same food, but buffet style) and in our down stairs setting that we do gambling games (our club has a state license) for those that prefer not to dress up. We do a formal one upstairs and is sit down style. We also have different members host a Friday dinner(volunteer basis, food is paid for by the men or women) but the proceeds go towards our misc funds such as the gas cards. A lot of people think of the Moose as the older generations and just a bar you have to pay dues to drink at, but ours is collectively younger and we are more involved with the community. I am the youngest on our board at 27 and hoping to get more in my generation involved.
