Tacky or Not Tacky

Having a mimosa bar at your baby shower?? Tacky or not?

Re: Tacky or Not Tacky

  • I don't think so. I wouldn't drink at mine, but I wouldn't care if others did.

Why are you thinking that might be tacky?  If it is because the mother to be is obviously pregnant, I would not worry about it.  You are hosting guests and if they would appreciate a mimosa, I say go for it.  I don't think it would be tacky at all, but I have been called tacky on the baby shower board so you may not want to take my advice :)

  • I don't think its tacky, there will be one at my shower this weekend :) obviously not for me but for my guests.

I am co-hosting another baby shower in Sept, and the SIL of the Mother to be claims a mimosa bar is tacky. Just curious how many other people feel this way?

  • There will be one at my shower.  Even though I can't partake there is no reason my guests should go without!  I'm hoping the champagne distracts from the gift opening.....
They're serving wine at my shower too. I don't plan to partake, but I'm glad everyone else can enjoy some. :)

Exactly!  I know the MOTB is the focus of the shower, but I believe the event should also be designed around the guests enjoying themselves.

  • I so wish I could have a mimosa!! Definitely not tacky.. I was so jealous at my friends bridal shower last weekend cause everyone else got to enjoy delicious raspberry, pear and mango mimosas while I crunched on ice cubes!!
  • Not tacky! Let's face it, watching someone open gifts can get boring, much more entertaining after a mimosa! Lol :)
  • I have never worried for a minute what other people think so I am definitely the wrong person to ask but if it makes you feel better I am planning on making and bringing these beauties to my own baby shower https://jelly-shot-test-kitchen.blogspot.com/2011/05/elderflower-mojito-jelly-shot.html (aren't they pretty?) and I know that the girls throwing the shower are also making drinks for the guests.
By my reasoning it is tacky for me not to show some love for the guests who have come all that way bearing gifts for me and just because I can't down fancy jello shots doesn't mean that they shouldn't!

  • We had mimosas at my shower last weekend. I didn't drink it but it was happily received by all the other ladies. I don't think it is tacky.
  • Not tacky.

  • What's her reasoning behind calling it tacky? I say not tacky and I do this for a living. By that I mean plan events.
She says its tacky, because its not a bridal shower and baby showers shouldn't have alcohol  8-|

Oh lordy, that's a bit of an old fashioned statement. Just search it in Pinterest and show her how many hits come up…
Seriously, I know. And not that age matters, but she is only 25, so that made even more weird.

  • Alcohol at baby showers is the only way to get through them!!
  • There was a ton of alcohol at our Dallas shower but it had more of a BBQ feel than a traditional shower.

  • There was a full bar at my SILs shower. I vote not tacky.

  • I'm going to a baby shower in just over a week or so that's being held at a place doing bottomless mimosa brunch.  I'm butt hurt about it because I can't drink, but I don't care otherwise.

  • Not tacky. Seems pretty normal to me. We served Pimm's at mine, but that's bc it sort of a drink I love and was the cocktail at my wedding. Of course, I didn't have any, but it was pretty to look at;)

  • Not tacky at all!  I had a mini mimosa at my shower with DD and it was delic.  It was about 99% OJ with a splash of bubbly!  They also served Bloody Mary's!

  • Anyone who goes to a baby shower deserves a drink, IMHO.

  • Agreed, not tacky. We made mojitos at my shower. I was drinking faux-itos. All opposed are just party poppers.
  • I think a mimosa bar sounds amazing!! They served wine at my shower :)

  • Wow, I want a mimosa now! Not only do I vote "not tacky," I think you should have a few sips yourself. ;)
