Babies: 0 - 3 Months

EBF and 1st period question

I think might be a silly question, but I thought I would ask anyways...

I thought you were not supposed to get your period while you are breastfeeding. I know you can still get pregnant, but I thought your period does not show up. I got mine today and I am 12 weeks pp. My son is exclusivly breast fed. I have also noticed my milk supply is starting to decrease and I was wondering if the two were related. Anyone else??

Thanks!

Re: EBF and 1st period question

  • You can still get your period if you are breastfeeding I just finished mine and my babies are 10 weeks old.  I also noticed a dip in productivity during my pumping sessions but it seems to be going back up now.

  • I'm at 19 weeks and still no period.  I did spot once back in Nov., but I had slowed down the BF.  Once I put the baby back on more frequently the spotting stopped and the supply built back up.

  • that is a myth. you CAN still get your period while BFing.  you also can ovulate without getting your period so do not by any means believe that breast feeding will keep you from getting pregnant.

btw,  i still have not gotten my period. i spotted 2 times the 1st month i started the mini pill, nothing since.
