Which day? (birthday talk)

Figured I might as well ask, since all decisions are made with help from O13!

I'm have a very minor dilemma. DDs 1st birthday is Tuesday, October 14. I originally was going to throw her party (it's going to be at home) on Saturday, the 11th. Now I'm thinking I should change it because that weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving weekend so the friends we would be inviting will likely be out of town/busy. It's also my nephews birthday. But the following weekend, on Sunday is my friends daughter/DDs friends 1st birthday, so they will be busy.

Saturday, 11th- original party day
Sunday, 12th
Monday, 13th- Canadian Thanksgiving/Nephews 10th birthday
Tuesday, 14th-actual birthday
Saturday, 18th
Sunday, 19th-friends birthday

When would you throw her party? I was going to send invites out a month ahead so I need to decide soon!

  • I'd go with the 18th.

  • My DS 1st birthday is Sunday October 12th and we are Canadian and celebrating Thanksgiving that weekend as well. I had a hard time deciding on his party date as well.

We decided to have it on his actual birthday for a few reasons even though it's thanksgiving.

His birthday will obviously never change and we are going to have this situation arise every year so whoever can make it can make it and whoever can't, can't. It doesn't matter when you have the party not everyone will be able to make it. We are having it from 1-4pm so if someone wants to stop in before then go for thanksgiving dinner then they could still do both if they'd like to.
I also prefer this weekend because it's a long weekend and we can enjoy Monday together as a family with just the 3 of us after the party and thanksgiving dinner is over.

  • Do you have turkey on Canadian Thanksgiving?

Yep! As far as DHs family, they celebrate just like all the American families I know.

  • I say the 18th.  I used to work as a nanny and my boss was from Canada so they always celebrated and leftovers were always a treat on Monday!

Also why don't we have ketchup chips here?  I loved when they would visit and bring them back or her parents would visit and bring like 5 bags.

  • Caleb's bday is the 14th and his party is the 18th. I didn't want to celebrate until the 1st year was complete!

If Monday the 13th is the holiday will people have the day after off?
