Diaper bag question for STM's

I have a Timi & Leslie Charlie diaper bag from my son that we still use... I absolutely love it because it doesn't look like a typical diaper bag. My question is for those with 2 (my son will be 22 months when LO is born), should I invest in a backpack-like diaper bag, or would mine still do the trick?! The one I have can be worn on the shoulder or has an over the shoulder strap. Any suggestions/advice mamas?!

Re: Diaper bag question for STM's

  • I prefer a backpack diaper bag over a messenger/over the shoulder style anyway. I started out with one of each with my son and quickly stopped using the messenger lol. We got the same type of backpack diaper bag for this baby, just in a different color. We love it! I'm sure yours would still be fine though.

Here is the one we love. It comes in red or blue now, ours was grey/black.

  • I also use a backpack style diaper bag and think it is much easier when trying to juggle two kids :)

  • I hadn't thought about it. I don't like how they look when worn as backpacks (it's tacky , IMO. Petunia picklebottom or not). But it would help while chasing a toddler. I haven't used my bag since I bought DS a backpack leash (he carries his own extra diaper, wipes, and toys) and use a crossbody vera. I probably won't buy a new diaper bag though, unless it becomes a real issue.

  • I am using the same one. It is not a backpack style. I don't know what it will be like with a 3 y/o with me, but it will work. Chances are I will have the stroller or something with me anyway, so it will just hang out on there, and not so much on me.

I'd say to evaluate how you think you would be using it and what else you would have with you. Are you carrying LO in a baby carseat, pushing in a stroller, holding, or have in a carrier/sling when you will have the diaper bag in use? Knowing that may help you narrow down the choice a bit.
  • I will be using the same bag. It's PPB, and has the option to wear as a backpack.

DS really only needs 1-2 diapers and snacks when we go out, so I think there will be enough room in there for both the kids (and my) junk.

I was just planning on getting a storksak shoulder/messenger bag as it was the one I liked best in terms of material and looks (not really diaper bag-like and in black, I think my DH would use it messenger style if need be).

I hadn't thought about how I would carry it if I wear the baby around the city.  Do shoulder bags work while using a carrier/sling?

  • A backpack would be the best if you are using a carrier or sling frequently with it I would imagine, because a shoulder strap would kind of get in the way of the carrier/sling. But then, you're basically weighten down too.

I think my husband has one similar to you, and his wouldn't be so comfortable to use with our baby bjorn, unless you get good at having the bag stay by your butt on the backside.

These are things I never thought about with our first. But live and learn.
  • I bought a pink Coach diaper bag that goes over the shoulder and love it. I used a similar one (camo and red) with my son and wore that sucker out:)
  • I have a timi and leslie dawn. I am planning on trying to use it for both.
