Middle name for Robert

edited August 2014 in Baby Names
My DH refuses to drop the First name Robert, I'm stuck with it, but I get to choose the MN, and he will probably go by his MN. I can't handle four generations worth of different NN for Robert.

Re: Middle name for Robert

  • @HisGirlFriday929 I don't agree with it, I'm just not sure I want to fight about it.  And believe me, it would be a huge fight.  I married a super sensitive guy, and I thought he was gonna tear up when I told him how I really felt about it.  He thinks he would be dishonoring his family if he chose a different name.  I told him, the kid will still have his last name so I don't understand why it's such a big freaking deal, but it is.  He lets me have my way on almost EVERYTHING else in life, I guess he kinda deserves this one.

  • I voted Matthew but I would try to get him on board with Matthew Robert.  I actually like Robert but if you don't then you should put your foot down and come up with two names you both like.
  • Please don't give your kid a first name that is not even remotely what you're planning on calling them.  I am someone who goes by my middle name and it's a huge PITA.  For my parents it was an awesome compromise, but I wish they had just switched around my first and middle names.

If YH is dead set on Robert start thinking about calling baby Rob, Bob, Bobby, Robbie, Bert, or some other genuine nickname.  If there are none that you like then veto Robert or veto it as a first name.

  • I also have to agree not to name him something you won't call him. My parents did this to me and I HATE it. So annoying. Robert is a nice name but I get not wanting your baby to have the same name as a bunch of other family members. I would compromise by saying yes to Robert in the middle name spot and naming him what you like and plan to call him. Your son will thank you for it, trust me and he still gets the family name included. Seems like everyone wins that way.
