How to get BF poop stains out of clothing? *Updated*

I know I've seen suggestions about laying the items out in the sun. Can someone explain how that works? Should I rinse them first or lay them out dry, and can this work if they've already been washed and dried?

Any other tips or tricks? I just did a load of laundry and had put oxyclean on the soiled stuff but it didn't even come close to getting it out. I've never had a problem, but all of a sudden the stains just won't come out! Help!

Update: I just re-wet everything that was still stained, even stuff that has been washed and dried several times, and they've been out in the sun all afternoon. All the stains are COMPLETELY gone! You're right, it's magic! Thanks again for the advice ladies!

  • I typically soak in Oxyclean, lay the item in the sun while wet and then launder as usual. It's a miracle!

  • Loading the player...
  • totally not organic but I use Shout stain remover. Spray it on and let it soak for a bit. Works great every time
  • +1 to babyganics and I've used after accidentally drying!
  • I usually wash and dry in the dryer then leave out in the sun. It has always removed the stain for me. I don't pre-treat the stain anymore because I find that it was so hit or miss. Not sure how it works but it works!

For set in already dried stains I fill a sink with cold water and baby oxyclean. For really bad stains I might use a stain stick first and then soak. Soak forever. Literally, I got ink on a dress once and soaked it for like 3 days. Then washed. It worked. Thank god because the dress was worn like twice.

ETA it wasn't like a drop of ink. It was a whole pen full of ink. My husband left a pen in his pocket and it went in the dryer and exploded. Fun for the whole family!!
  • You can put previously dried/old or dry clothes out in the sun and the stains still disappear (like freakig magic!) I mostly lone dry my cloth diapers but if I wash on a rainy day they go in the dryer. The next wash day the stains still sun out. You can even sun them through a window in the winter.

  • For minor stains, I use Spray n Wash before washing. For the nasty ones, soak in oxy clean for a couple of hours first. The sun also works wonders.

  • Sorry to thread-jack, but does anyone know if oxyclean gets out formula spit-up stains out? The sun doesn't seem to do it. I've heard oxy clean works though. Is it gentle on colours?

  • I ff and pump so I have dealt with the bright yellow poop stains and formula spit up ones. I just use a tide pen even if the stain is noticed after a wash and dry, so far it has worked for me.
  • I use the sun for all my BF poop stains now. I rinse or soak the clothes in cold water, then let dry in the sun. If the stain is still there, I re-wet the area and lay out again. Then wash as usual. This worked on stains that went through 2 full wash and dry cycles trying to get stains out before I learned the magic powers of the sun :). Hope it works well for you too!
  • We have had some massive blowouts here :) I presoaked in oxiclean during the day for a good 12-24 hrs then used the oxiclean spray and washed them in the machine. It works great!
  • Any other recs for spit up stains around the collar?? My Guy is a spitter!

It should be fine with colours, I haven't had any issues.
