Question about going into labor

This is my second pregnancy. My first child was an elective c section at 39 weeks 1 day (due to medical issues....insulin dependent gestational diabetes, mild pre eclampsia). We felt an induction would likely not go well as my body showed no signs of being ready for labor (ex not dialated, effaced, baby was still quite high). My question is, for STM who had a c section and are anticipating another c section, did you go into labor before you're scheduled section?

Re: Question about going into labor

  • No C-section here but I have heard that baby can drop earlier the second time around which may help to prepare your body for labor.

Although since your first didn't really drop I'm not sure if that is that is the same in your case.

    Wish I had more help!

  • No C-section with my first, but my friend had a c-section with her first, second c-section scheduled on her due date.  She went into labor on her own 10 days before.  Her H made her eat a bagel before going to the hospital so they had to wait, while they were waiting he asked her why they weren't trying  to do it vaginally.  So they asked the nurse if that was possible (don't ask me why this was not discussed prior and her doc just assumed they wanted another section), of course it was, so she had a vaginal delivery and everything went fine.

  • I'm only on my second child so I can't give personal experience and honestly everyone's body is different it doesn't matter if 40 people were to respond to you; you're experience could totally be different than theirs... I will say I have two friends that went into labor before their scheduled C-sections but that's really neither here nor there. Things can go either way...Labor sometimes comes early (earlier than EDD) and sometimes late!

So I'm a FTM and will be no help to the OP (sorry! Best of luck though!)  But what a thing to "assume"!

  • It is definitely possible to go into labor before a scheduled c-section, although I don't know how likely it is. One of my cousins had it happen a few days before her c-section with her third (at about 38 weeks), and I had another cousin whose doctor was adamant that she needed a surgeon to perform her surgery (due to severe complications with the birth of her first child) so scheduled her c-section super early (around 37.5 weeks) to try to ensure that she didn't go into labor unexpectedly and risk the surgeon not being available.
