Feeding Schedules

Hi, i don't post on here a lot so a quick reintro before i get to my question.  My name is Meri, mother to Dylan born on Feb. 11.  From Westchester in NY.  Anything else you may want to know, feel free to ask : )

So we've just started introducing solids once a day after his last bottle before bedtime about a month ago but our DCP says he seems a little hungry after bottle at times and wants to start giving him some food as well.  For those of you who feed multiple times a time, how do you incorporate it into your schedule and what is your feeding schedule like?  thanks!!

Re: Feeding Schedules

  • We do rice cereal around 8am, nurse at 10, nurse at 1, nurse sometime between 4 and 5, oatmeal and veggie at 7, bedtime bottle around 8:30.

Can you bump up the size of his bottle? I honestly don't know what size bottle my LO needs right now, so it'll be trial and error for the first few days at DC. You could also incorporate a morning "meal." I would hesitate to do solids after every bottle, but that could be completely unfounded. When in doubt -- see if you can talk to someone at your pedi's office. They know your LO and can guide you appropriately!

  • We do solids in between bottles, basically whenever it fits into our day. Usually it's between 2nd and 3rd bottle (1pm ish), and again between 4th and 5th. (7pm ish). Today is different because we will be in town most of the afternoon, so I already did her first meal around 10. (Between 1st and 2nd bottle), and we will do her second meal like normal between her 4th and 5th bottle).

  • We do solids in between nursing. So she nurses at about 8, then a solid around 9, then nurses again around 1030. Same thing for her "dinner" solid.
  • Here's our schedule
    6am: nurse
    8:30 : oatmeal cereal with a purée
    11am: nurse
1:30: oatmeal cereal and a purée
    4:00: nurse
6:00: nurse, then BLW dinner with us
7:30: 5oz bottle of breastmilk, nurse to sleep
