Mirena Problems

I got one put in July 22, the week before I went back to work from leave from having my DD. They couldn't really see it during the u/s after it was inserted because I was bleeding. Man did it hurt! I did it  all natural with my daughter and I swear, it hurt worse than labor pains! That can't be normal! I went back on the 1st, they still couldn't see it on an u/s so my doctor performed an exam and she couldn't feel the strings. They kept asking me if I was cramping and if it fell out. I would have noticed! I was then scheduled for an x-ray at an imaging place, or so I thought. The medical assistant scheduled me for another u/s by mistake for the 5th. So we rescheduled an x-ray for this last Saturday. Hadn't heard anything from the doctor's office at all this week until I made the call to them this morning. Come to find out, it did perforate my uterus and is in my abdomen. I have to schedule a surgery for removal, whenever the doctors decide to call me back. Which it better be soon because I switch insurance companies next week due to my birthday.

Just curious if anyone has had the same problem? Did it mess with your milk supply at all? I'm thankful that I have somewhat of a stash built up, but I'm very nervous about it ruining it. I do not want to have to give her formula at all.

Re: Mirena Problems

  • No experience, but I hope it works out OK.y only advice is to relax about the formula. Of you have to supplement, you have to.y babies have had both. C is a thriving two year old and Charlie is just as healthy now as he was three weeks ago when I was still trying to bf. Formula is not the devil.

Umm ok I don't know what's so bad about an IUD when other people post worse things, but whatever.
  • OP, I hope your surgery goes well.

  • Thanks all!

Sad to report that there is still no word from my doctor's office. I'm getting very upset. I lose my current insurance the 31st, my REALLY good insurance actually. And get my own at work starting the 1st. I have pressed to them I don't know how many times about that and still, nothing. Oh even mentioned I have like no time off saved up and they still won't work with with me about it. I have already decided I need to find another OB after this whole mess is over. Hopefully my old insurance still covers this even if it's after I'm off since it was a pre-existing condition. Curious to know if this may be a malpractice suit in the making...? Any lawyers out there? :)

And I'm really glad I missed what ever picture was posted. LOL! :)

I haven't even googled that myself yet, I'm already traumatized about the situation.

  • I'd go to the emergency room or another ob as soon as possible, and then I'd file a report with the better business bureau or whatever agency keeps doctors offices on line. It's insane that you have a foreign body stuck inside you and nothing is being done. Dont wait for this office, get it foxed, then deal with them.

  • You need to advocate for yourself. If it were my doctor, she'd have it remedied ASAP. Accidents do happen and insertion is a calculated risk but having it perforate your uterus is a huge deal.

  • Where I work, this is considered a same day, urgent surgery.  I cannot believe your OB has not removed the IUD yet.  I'm not a lawyer, but absolutely document everything.  You could have a case, especially if you have any complications.  Call them now, or call another practice, and get it removed!!!

  • Surgery is tomorrow!!! I bitched out the lady that does the scheduling, because GO FIGURE something else happened... They said I'm not covered on my current insurance and will have to pay out of pocket, so now I am dealing with that mess. But I asked her why I would have to pay out of pocket, when her office is at fault. Apparently it was on the waiver I signed the day it was put in. A waiver I skimmed over because it had been copied SO many times that it was hard to read. So I'm pretty sure I screwed myself by not reading fully.
