Trouble TTC

Hi, I'm new!

Hi Ladies,

I'm new here. I've had 20 BFNs so far. All the tests we've done have come back looking normal. My doc has recommended IUI and DH isn't quite ready for that yet so we're doing a few more rounds of letrozole/femara with TI and Progesterone before we move on to IUI. (I should say that I'm completely onboard with waiting until DH is comfortable to move forward -- so far this doesn't bother me. It may bother me in the future, but for now it's not difficult for me to be patient while he learns and gets comfortable with the process.)

I guess where my story may differ a little from the typical woman here is that when DH and I married almost 10 years ago we didn't think we wanted to have children. We married young and liked the idea of enjoying other people's children. About 3 years ago we both changed our minds and decided to do one more epic vacation and get ourselves moved back to living closer to family before we tried for children of our own. Finally the right time arrived.....and now here we are trying to figure out why it's not happened yet.

I have an HSG test scheduled on Friday (8/22). The other times I've tried timing hasn't worked out (they want it done between CD6-11 but AF often lasts 8 days for me so that makes it tough with weekends etc.) I'm a little nervous but from what I read, it doesn't sound like it's that big of a deal. right? RIGHT?! :)

Looking forward to getting more involved in this board. Best of luck to everyone here!

Re: Hi, I'm new!

  • Hi there, welcome to the board.  Hopefully your stay will be super short.  DH and I also said we didn't want kids at first.  I changed my mind first but it took him an extra 5 years to come around.  Sometimes I wish I could go back to a time before it was so important to remember what it felt like to not have a care in the world.

I think HSGs affect everyone differently but mine was very easy.  I wouldn't describe it as painful but more mildly uncomfortable.  Just make sure you take some ibuprofen ahead of time because you will probably have some cramping afterward.

    FX and GL!

  • Sorry about your BFNs. I hope you get your dream soon! :)

It's wonderful that you and YH are understanding of each other and are making sure you're both on board with everything. I do want to suggest that YH has a sperm analysis if he hasn't yet. If there is a severe male factor involved, you could be medicating your body for nothing.

MH got an SA and learned of his MFI 4 years ago, I believe it was. After that, even though we knew our chances were 1%/month, we still waited on seeing an RE until we were both ready. But it was helpful to have a realistic picture, which made it easier to get those BFNs dozens of times in a row. -_-

Either way, I wish you both the best! I won't share my HSG experience because it was pretty awful but, just know that no matter what, it WILL be over soon. :)

Good suggestion on the semen analysis. We have done that and it came back normal. My RE did a ton of blood work with me early on as well as a timed Ultrasound to confirm I had follicles at the right time; she also required a semen analysis before she would suggest anything else.

And thanks for not sharing your less-than-perfect HSG story. :) You're right -- no matter what it'll be over with by lunchtime. :)

Welcome! I had a sono-HSG done and it was pretty uncomfortable (even took Advil before) but I'm pretty sure it was due to my tilted uterus. I will say that it was over quickly and my tubes were clear, so it was tolerable. Good luck!

Welcome!!! Sounds like you and DH have the same plan as us.. Our RE suggested IUI at the beginning, but DH wants to try the Letrole/Progesterone/TI cycles first. {He's an optimist} We're on cycle #3 of 4... October will/could be our 1st IUI. And good luck with the HSG!! For me, the worst part was the anticipation right before the procedure {mine was done in a sugical center which scared the bejeezus out of me because it made me think it was more serious than I prepared myself for lol}. My RE prescribed me some high dose ibuprofen before hand so I had minimal discomfort and cramping.

    Hope your stay here is short, but just know you have definitely come to the right place for info and support. {And def laughs.. keep your eye on @IPutKetchupOnKetchup and @kmdecoux lol}

LOL, thanks but I am not even in Ketchup's league.

  • Welcome

I can relate... I always had a "whatever happens, happens" attitude about kids, as we didn't know how previous medical issues may have compromised DH. Then that noisy biological clock had to interfere and I actually started caring
