TTC after 35

What happens to you during PMS?

I am PMSing something fierce today:
- Shorter tempered
- Taking offense to everything (ie: Something someone said on my FB status meaning to be a joke, but I took it literally)
- Hungry AS HELL (I want to eat a sub, a whole pizza and a 12-pack of donuts), but unfortunately, I have a diet to stick to.
- Craving dark chocolate, and angry I left a bar of it at home
- Already bloated

UGGGGH.

What happens to you during PMS?

Re: What happens to you during PMS?

  • I suppose I am short tempered, but mostly I am teary eyed- cry very easily, overly sensitive.  I tend to crave salty things but pre af I want sweets.    Hugs for you lady!

  • I'm just a complete and total bitch!!!

    Fucking bump!!!!
  • @kelley72- Yeah..I'm a crier, too. I saw a Johnson & Johnson commercial this morning, and got all misty-eyed.

@pintobean- Haha! I totally get that. I was a bitch today to my co-worker, but really didn't mean it. Regardless...I was more respected after I said what I said, so it was a win.
  • @kelley72 and @lgsdesigner I hear you on the sweet cravings.  @pintobean, luckily I do not have the bitchy part of it.  I'm afraid it would come out with my kiddos who would not understand.
My symptoms, which I currently have,

    *blisters on my tongue
    *chocolate cravings
    *sore boobs
    *cramping
*less patience than usual (I am more likely to move kids to yellow during this time)

  • I'm a total bitch to the people I'm closest with (I know it's wrong!!) I also crave sweet & salty, either separately or together.
    Married since 10-20-2007
    Age: 37
    DH Age: 38
    TTC #1 since January 2014

  • I don't get any mood changes, but I literally want to eat everything in sight! And I get so bloated, it looks like I'm 20 weeks pregnant.
Me: 37 DH: 37, married since Sept. 2013. "actively" TTC for a total of 13 months (after 7 months of TTC, took a 1 1/2 year hiatus due to work scheduling and wedding planning. Started up again after our wedding in Sept.) First evaluation by an RE November 2013

    HSG-normal
OH-tiny polyp found, but RE assured me she doesn't think it's contributing to infertility and doesn't recommend me to remove it because it's so small.
    DH's SA-normal
    Hormones all within normal levels
Ovarian Reserve-RE says "is great" she's not concerned about my egg quantity (which I was until I saw her and results came back good!)

04/2012 50mg Clomid=BFN (prescribed by OBGYN, not monitored)
06/2012 50mg Clomid=BFN (prescribed by OBGYN, not monitored)
11/2013 100mg Clomid, with HCG trigger=BFN (prescribed by RE, monitored with US (2 dominant follicles) and baseline bloodwork done)
01/2014 100mg Clomid, with HCG trigger-(prescribed by RE, monitored with US-1 dominant follicle)=BFN
06/2014 7.5mg Letrozole, HCG trigger (prescribed by RE, monitored with US-2 dominant follicles), IUI #1 on 7/3/14=BFN
07/2014 7.5mg Letrozole, benched for IUI#2 this cycle, because I ovulated on my own before my follicular US. Progesterone suppositories=BFN Diagnosed with PCOS this month too. Testosterone levels high at 76. =(
08/2014 7.5mg Letrozole, HCG trigger with 19mm follicle. IUI#2 on 8/31 cancelled last minute due to family emergency.
09/2014 Taking a 3 month break starting this month. If not pregnant in 3 months, will start up again with medicated cycles and IUIs. Had all my labs and AFC re-evaluated this month also. RE says nothing much has changed since my eval last November, okay for me to take a little break. =)

  • Since my loss I gain about 6 lbs the week before AF shows (used to be 2 or 3). I always get back cramps and sometimes stomach cramps. This month, however, I was also super bitchy/moody (like completely wild mood swings) and I was crying over everything. I really thought I for a couple days that maybe I was KU, but alas that was not the case.

So, timely enough my dh and I argued last night.  I was rather snippy to him and he dared to walk away!  Que 5 hours of silence from me, ending only after argument, crying, hugs, kisses, well I'll spare you.  Yes I think I'm out this cycle.  Damnit

opps eta: also ate a million crackers with cheese and pepperoni  at 10:30!
  • @kelley72- Awww...I'm sorry. :( I hate fighting with my FI. But..the make up sex, is great. ;)
Want to know something funny? Last night we were allll about having some adult time, but after a hard workout and all the freelance work we both had to do, we were too tired. I felt like we were an 80 year old couple...too tired to do a damn thing! Ha!

I once cried because the coffee shop had run out of cream cheese for my bagel.  It is such a strange feeling to know on an intellectual level that the reaction is totally disproportionate to the events at hand and at the same time feel the very real emotion of overwhelming sadness about the lack of cream cheese.

Otherwise, I'm pretty lucky: I get a bit crampy and tired, but nothing two advils and a giant coffee can't take the edge off. These days I'm also having acne spazz-outs since my big gun meds aren't ok while TTC. My medium gun meds are doing a decent job throughout the month but come PMS time, all bets are off on my skin. I'm terrified of what will happen in pregnancy, when what I can take now will be off limits.  Oops, sorry, gone off topic!

  • I get very weepy and a bit snappish. I also get cramps and migraines and killer fatigue.
Me: 38 DH: 40 TTC#1 (and likely only) since 9/13. Saw RE 5/14, SA good, AMH 2.36, FSH 7.2, estradiol 69.6 indicating good egg reserve. Using OPKs. First Letrozole cycle 6/14, a burst cyst and a BFN. Second Letrozole cycle 7/14, BFN.

Update 11/14 - had laparoscopy 10/28, good news is that my uterus and left tube look good, and they were able to drain the cyst on my left ovary. Bad news is that right tube and ovary have endo and scar tissue, so they're pretty useless.. Best news is that we finally have some answers and a path forward. Taking 7.5 mg letrozole CD 2-6 to put that good left ovary through its paces.

UPDATE 2/2015 - We switched to another fertility clinic, but fortunately we don't have to start all over. We're doing two cycles of Clomid plus IUI, if neither of those take, we'll do IVF in April, potentially with ICSI. (DH's SA has gone downhill, likely due to excessive exercise.) IUI#1 2/25/15....
  • @marijaa333 - Haha! I have been there. I left my phone charger and lunch at home today, and was about to lose it in the car on the way to work. I instead, used road rage, to take out my anger. Maybe not the best alternative, but you know... ;)

And as far as your acne goes, I break out every cycle.

When it comes to pregnancy and acne:

    **children mentioned**

With my son, I had beautiful hair and clear skin. I looked glowy and almost angelic.
With my daughter, well...the complete opposite. My hair was dry and scraggly and my face looked like a teenager's going through puberty. They say "Girls steal your beauty during pregnancy". Well...they were right!
  • @Austrogermokee- I hear you on the fatigue. I feel like I can sleep for days and days, and for some odd reason, my period always arrives when I'm the most busy and have too much to do.
  • @lgsdesigner I've heard that about acne and sex of the baby, but apparently no studies have found a link. In any case, I couldn't possibly blame my acne on a baby since I've had to live with it for 25 years.
  • @marijaa333-I was always that pregnant woman that fit all the old wives tales. Most people don't, but I fit every one of them. Lucky me, I guess? Really though...I could do without the acne. I wish that magically at age 25 it stopped and never came back. Suffering through acne in my teenage years and young 20's was good enough.
  • @lgsdesigner  Hopefully some of those wives tales are good ones? Like, if your right palm is itchy you will receive money?

And yes, I wish acne would just go away, but I've accepted it by now. I can't wait to be able to go back on low dose accutane, but it might be quite a few years before it happens since it's a no-no for a while before TTC, while TTC, obviously during pregnancy and during breastfeeding. For me, it's the only thing that works, and work it does! Now I take other pills and it feels like I'm trying to shovel a frozen driveway with an ice pick during a snow storm.
  • @marijaa333- Yes, some of the wives tales are good for me. Some are crappy.

Accutane is some good stuff! You would think by now they would have created pregnancy-friendly Accutane or at least a product that mimics it.
  • I have really strong chocolate cravings on certain days. I also get irritable on some days and over-emotional other days. For instance, I might lose patience with people and the next day feel overwhelming love.

  • I cry. A lot. It's terrible for my life and especially my job! I can't control it. It drives me bonkers! I also drop things...my mom does, too. She is a doctor and originally wanted to be a surgeon but realized she couldn't be dropping things a week out of every month and be one, ha!
Other than that, some nice cramps, bloating and a good old migraine every now and again. Joys of womanhood!

  • @wannabmama- I cry even when I'm not PMSing! lol It has a lot to do with me being a sensitive crab Cancer. ;)
  • @lgsdesigner‌ ha...oh I do, too. For me, I think a lot of the time it's my reaction when a normal person would be mad...instead of being mad, I cry. And any time I could feel any sort of empathy, I do...and cry. I want to do family law, but I fear I wouldn't be able to handle it and would just cry with all my clients. I joke that it's my fatal flaw.

I'm definitely irritable at times, but I think despondency and tears take the top spots, unfortunately. @marijaa333 the sad tale of the cream cheese shortage really resonated with me and made me giggle; that's exactly the sort of thing that would happen to me, and that I would be simultaneously devastated and mortified by.

Other than that, I've noticed bloating more lately than ever before. I'm more attuned to my body than I have been in the past (through both weight loss and TTC) so I think I'm more keenly aware of the monthly changes that it goes through.

I'm about a week away from predicted AF, so I guess I have some tears and bloating to look forward to soon (unless this cycle is my cycle!).

  • I also get both bitchy and weepy at relatively the same time.  I am about a week out right now and have noticed this time I have had a really sore lower back which is new for me. I usually crave chocolate like no other but not this month either.

@lgsdesigner - I had some serious road rage myself this morning. Flipping off the idiot that breaks in a merge was cathartic.

  • @BaytoSA2013- Yeah...me too, this morning. A garbage truck turned the wrong way on a one way and nearly killed me. I went OFF. Of course-- he couldn't hear me...only see my mouth and fingers going. Haha!
