Stopped pumping- supply decrease?

I was having to pump the first 2 months for several different reasons but now that everything is back to normal I stopped pumping as much over the course of 4 weeks. I went from pumping 6 times a day to 4 to 2 and now I only pump if needed. When I was pumping though I had soOoOO much milk that I would always have about 8-10 oz extra per day that I would freeze and now that I have pretty much eliminated all pumping sessions whenever I do pump it's like 2-4 oz total. I went from pumping 4-6 oz per session to pumping 2-4 oz. Does this mean my supply is decreasing? I haven't noticed my LO losing any weight. He always pulls off the breast as if he's full but then again he has been more fussy lately for unknown reasons. I just took it as he was teething and just irritable. HELP! thanks!

Re: Stopped pumping- supply decrease?

  • I assume you stopped pumping because baby is nursing now? If he's happy and gaining weight I wouldn't worry about it. If you want to add to your freezer stash, pump after a nursing session (but don't expect to get much, maybe 1-2 ounces total) or after LO has gone down for a long sleep stretch at night.

If you're worried he's not getting enough, ask to stop in at the pediatrician's office for a weight check or see an LC and do a weighed feeding.
