Parenting after 35

Let's brag on our kiddos

My 2 year old is starting "wee school" in a couple of weeks. And she's so excited about carrying a backpack! She's been practicing at home. She's learning to take off her own shoes and socks and is a champion zipper-doer-upper. And my almost 4 month old is a smiling, growing, sleeping thru the night future linebacker who is now in 6 month clothes. He started out as a 6 lb, 4 oz shrimp, but he's huge now! I'm so proud and so ridiculously in love with those two. What are your kiddos doing to make your heart swell and buttons pop with pride??

  • My 8.5 month old is walking holding onto one hand. It's total lurching and so darn cute. She's also standing on her own for a good 10 seconds. She wants to take a step but she gets too excited and throws herself off balance. When she actually starts to walk I'm in trouble. :)

  • DS1 started kindergarten last week. He loves it and loves taking the bus, learning and meeting new friends. He is doing great.

DS2 started rolling over a few weeks ago. He also had been sick over the last month with pink eye, an ear infection and now a stomach virus and he still smiles even when feeling crappy. Gotta love day care.

  • DS1 (will be 3 in just under 2 weeks) had his birthday party with my family out of state over the weekend and would say thank you to whoever gave him a present before he even opened it and without being prompted.

DS2 (10 months old tomorrow) is taking 5-6 steps at a time, standing up on his own without holding onto anything, and has dropped 1 MOTN wake up, and so far he loves all food.

My little guy rolled over tummy to back on Monday (12 weeks, 5 days).   Alas, the nanny saw it, not me.  But I'm still proud of him.

He's starting to understand that he can make us smile.  Yesterday during a nursing session, he would frown, then smile, then stick out his tongue while watching my face.   He knew all those things get a reaction out of me I guess.   He would then smile, duck his head and nurse for a bit and then pull off and do it all over again.  So cute!

  • Everything they do makes my heart swell. Well, almost everything.

Right now I'm feeling super proud of how DS1's doing in school. I was nervous about him starting kindergarten but he's taken to it really well. He's got little buddies, the teacher hasn't expressed any concerns about him acting up, and he even got a "reading out loud" award.

DS2, whose receptive language has always been awesome but has been slow with the expressive, is currently going through a word explosion so we can finally have two-sided conversations. Woohoo!

  • My 4 year old is an incredible master builder with his lego sets - and this afternoon we spent almost 3 hours playing games - card games, board games - it was a perfect day of fun with him!
