Baby A: right ventricular thickness

Had impromptu u/s today due to some stomach pain. Ended up seeing A's heart has a thicker right ventricular wall; this needing an echo done with the perinatal dr. Oh yay.

Anyone have experience with right ventricular thickness?! That's all I know... OB said no need to panic or stress, everything otherwise looks great.

Re: Baby A: right ventricular thickness

  • We had a concern about thickening of part of the ventricle in one baby come up after an ultrasound. The echo was totally normal. The echo will give them a much better look at things- try not to worry- there's a good chance it's nothing at all.

  • Our Baby A has ventricular thickening, confirmed by a fetal echo.  I'm diabetic, and apparently it's very common in diabetic moms, despite having good control.  The cardiologist said that it's mild and should present no issues either short-term or long-term.  We'll have to get echo's done on both twins when they're a month old, and periodic monitoring after that, but as he gets older into toddlerhood, they expect the thickness to completely resolve itself.

Hopefully, your echo's turn up nothing, but if there is thickening, there is a good chance for a positive prognosis.
