Tummy Sleeper Diaper Issues

LO loves sleeping on his tummy now. His face is always to the side so I don't worry about it. He's a crazy sleeper. He's also a crazy pee-er too. Diaper is always very full by morning. (Goes down at 10, awake between 7:30 and 9.) Since sleeping on his tummy, his diapers seem to leak all over the place. It could be that we just moved him up to 3's and so they are still a bit big. I'm wondering if we should do 2's for bed time, or if anyone else has found a brand that works better for night time tummy sleepers, especially boys.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Re: Tummy Sleeper Diaper Issues

  • I have a girl but we've had a lot of luck with a Pampers Overnights. they come up high on her belly and back so she doesn't pee out of them but they're not loose around her legs so they don't leak out of the bottoms. she's in 2's normally but for nighttime we put her in 3's.

  • We had issues with DS until we started using inserts! They are wonderful! I use them with LO also. You can get them at BRU or amazon. They are made by select kids. Also making sure the diaper is snug before bedtime helped with DS.
  • I made sure my little guys diapers were tighter at night because he's laying straight and not sitting up. It really helped with leaking.
  • Like @psk mentioned - we do cloth at night. It has made a huge difference!
  • Thanks ladies. No leak last night, made sure the diaper was "securely fastened" and put his little man part down. I'll see if that helps as he doesn't appear to have slept on his back last night (of course!) I don't know if I have the stomach to do cloth diaper but I could stomach the cost of huggies or pampers if we only used them overnight.
  • This was a problem for us with our LO too, and have found that overnight diapers resolve the issue most of the time.  We usually use Pampers for daytime, but someone had recommended Huggies to me as their overnight diaper of choice so that's what I ended up buying.  LO normally wears size 2, but the smallest overnight they had was a size 3, so I inadvertently sized up as well.

Ditto PP, we always make sure he is pointed down and that the tabs were fastened nice and snug. I also try to shift the diaper slightly forward when I put it on as well.  It's an enormous diaper so I just shift it up so that goes up slightly higher in the front. Like I said this works most of the time for us - we may get a leak still once a week or so, but it is definitely an improvement, and when there is a leak it usually just gets his pjs wet (vs. the pjs, sheet, AND mattress cover that were getting wet before with the regular diapers). HTH, good luck!
