I just found out I'm having twins. I went through two rounds of IVF and am so happy with the results! I'm also very overwhelmed as this is my first pregnancy. Anyone else in the same boat or been through this?

IUI #"s1 - 3 (Femara + IUI) April - June 2013 - all BFN
Decided to do IVF...Began stimming on September 10th! Egg Retrieval 9/20/13. 19 eggs: 6 to mature to freeze after 6 fertilized with ICSI
3 morula stage embryos transferred on 9/25/13.....Beta #1 on 10/4/13/ = 7.5 Beta #2 on 10/6/13 = negative
IVF#2 - Lupron plan (set to begin on 10/28/13) (Planning on thawing and fertilizing our 6 eggs with ICSI as well as all of the mature eggs they retrieve with this fresh cycle.)
Late October 2013 - ectopic pregnancy - methotrexate injection....benched 3 months
CD1 - 12/5/13...Lupron set to start on 12/26/13; CD1 - 1/2/14....Baseline 1/3/14....begin follistim tonight and continue with lupron. (Got my calendar today! IVF#2 is a go!)
ER = 1/14/14 (11 eggs....9 were mature. 9 fertilized. Of the 6 mature eggs we thawed, only 4 fertilized. At this time, we have 13 eggs fertilized and growing. Waiting for news about a 3-day or 5-day transfer.)
ET = 1/19/14 (5dt).....3 blastocysts transferred! (All nine embryos didn't make it to freeze. =( )
Been through it! 1st IVF last August - ER was a year ago yesterday, actually.
Liam and Lillian born April 1st (April Fools Day!) - 6.4 and 4.12
The pregnancy was much more rough than a singleton, but tolerable if you take it waaay easy. Expect bedrest, at least modified, as a real possibility beginning in the end of 2nd tri. Prepare for the also very real possibility of early delivery, throw your birth plan out the window, read Dr Barbara Luke's book on expecting multiples, completely learn to go with the flow, and put on as much weight as you can early on. Feel free to msg me if you have questions, or email me

I also had twins on my 5th IVF attempt. My OB was great (and very experienced with twins and twin vaginal deliveries), but also very conservative since we worked so hard for them. She told me to not take any long trips (vacations) and to expect bedrest at 24 weeks. I didn't end up on bedrest until week 30 (growth discordance). I got 2 shots of Celestone (steroids for baby's lungs) @ 30 weeks. I delivered vaginally @ 36 weeks 1 day. DD weighed 5lbs and DS weighed 6lbs 9.4oz.
We didn't need any NICU, but did have some major breast feeding struggles. I planned all of my baby showers (and a maternity photo shoot) between 24-28 weeks and I am so glad that I did!

Welcome! I just had my twins (after 2 IVFs and one FET) at 32 weeks even after dealing with a shortening cervix, pre term labor, and then preeclampsia. A twin pregnancy is no joke! I agree with other posters about the Luke book.
I was on modified rest (no more than two hours standing a day) starting in second tri, and then on hospital bedrest at 30 weeks. Babies are doing great in the NICU but probably won't be home for 3-4 weeks. Plan your baby shower early!!!
Despite all of this, I'm still so glad we have twins and I'm head over heels for them.

Twins? You mean two babies? WOW!
Team PURPLE!!
We are excited to meet William Alexander and Harper Abigail in 2015!
My twinners were my first and only pregnancy. They were the first and only round of IVF. They were the only two surviving embryos. These kiddos were meant to be!
I actually lost weight during my pregnancy despite my best efforts to gain weight. They were born at 35+5 weighing 5lb5oz and 4lb14oz.
I'd say...expect some NICU time. Not everyone goes through it but I'd say the majority of us have had at least 1 stay in the NICU. Oddly enough it was my 5lb5oz son who had 10 days in the NICU due to not eating after his circumcision. They let my daughter go home with me under 5lb because she was holding her temp and eating on her own. She's still a tiny thing.
They just turned 2 on July 13. The pregnancy will most likely kick your ass. lol Take it in stride. I promise you, at some point, you won't remember all the ligament pain and kicks to the bladder. Enjoy it and congrats!!!

Thanks for all your stories and support! I feel good knowing I have such great resources with real life experience to help me through this! I'm due in early April
@JoleneFreiert hello and congrats! I'm a FTM expecting twins in May!!! Where are you located? No IVF here but I do have an advanced stage of endometriosis and my gyno told me it would most likely be very difficult for me to get pregnant. Showed her! Haha. Anyway where are you located? Let's keep in close touch!!
Congrats! I also have undergone IVF and just found out that I will be expecting twins in May 2015. It's still early on, but there are clearly 2 of them in there. I told DH that my uterus is a duplex.
I'm trying not to overwhelm myself, but for "fun" started looking at some baby stuff online. It looks like just a stroller with car seats is going to be an expensive undertaking.
@mrsnstlr I'm also due with twins in May and I have started looking at strollers as we'll! I can't help myself! Register early and have at least 2 or 3 baby showers. People are more giving when they hear you're having twins.. So I have heard anyway
Hi @greks84! I hope all is going well with your little beans! I've had my first "run in" with morning sickness this morning when out of no where I almost vomited in the sink while brushing my teeth. The next few months should be fun (insert sarcasm).
DH and I are starting to look at things and plan to register around the same time as we start to really tell people, probably at about 10 weeks.
When is your due date? I've been doing some reading and it appears that if you are having twins, you tend to go early. So my current due date is May 21 (which is already a change from May 23) and apparently it's more likely I'll go earlier in May, like May1 or even April 30.
Yes @mrsnstlr I have heard that too! I am due May 14 but we are supposed to be prepared to come as early as 28 weeks so I have read! Yikes right?! I have had a lot of nausea but no vomiting.
First time mom here. It was our First FET after a failed fresh cycle. We transferred two embryos and yesterday found out its twins! Over the moon excited but very nervous... Just want to get past the first trimester!
IVF #1 September 2014 - Transferred one 5-day blast : BFN
FET #1 October 2014 - Transferred two 5-day blasts: BFP!!
Congratulations! We did one full round of ivf and 2 FET-so 3 transfers total. After two fails we decided to transfer two blasts and they both stuck! I am now (almost) 33 weeks. It's been tough, but I can't wait to meet my babies in just about a month. I'm so happy for you! T&P for a smooth and easy twin pregnancy! This board is had been a great resource for me. It also has made me even more excited to become a twin mommy!
We went for our first ultrasound yesterday (at 8 weeks) and much to our surprise found out that we are having twins! This is my first pregnancy and twins do not run in either of our families. We were surprised, but are very happy and are praying that things continue to go well.
This is also my first pregnancy and we were surprised Wednesday at our 7+6 ultrasound with 2 babies. We don't know how it happened, as I'm 33, and there are no twins on either side, but it could be because I had my Mirena IUD out in August. My EDD is July 16, so I'm mentally preparing for early June.
