It got real today

Went for my 24 week checkup at our birth center. They were holding clinic in one of the birth suites since they were doing work in the usual clinic room. Just being in the birth suite knowing I was in the room where he'd be born it got so very real. Like not just that there was a baby in there but that very soon I'd be holding him for the first time right there! Excited and nervous at the same time!

What were some of y'all's "shit just got real" moments?

Re: It got real today

  • We just finished clearing out our spare bedroom and it's empty except for the boxes of baby furniture! Can't wait to get them built :)
  • Loading the player...
  • When I begin stashing up on cloth diapers again... next month! And then probably when I order my birth kit.

  • Looking around her nursery, and realizing how soon I'd be putting her down for a nap in her crib, or reading to her in the rocking char, or changing her at the changing table. I'm so freaking excited.

  • @RaeChay‌ completely relate... Not as far but already in second tri after my youngest. I was just telling hubs that I won't believe it until she's in my arms... I didn't think after 10 years I would struggle a bit.
  • Prayers for smooth sailing for the remainder for you Pgal ladies. I can't even imagine the walking on eggshells feeling you must have. I had a mc at 10 weeks many years ago, but I didn't even know I was pregnant and I was so young that it never felt like a "loss" but at this stage in the game it would be much much different!

I just went through DD's closet and put all the cloth diapers and covers in the trash bin we use. I put the liner in it so it's all ready to go :). Will buy 1 or 2 gender neutral covers incase it's a boy.

What's a birth kit? Are you having a home birth?

I put my 28 week and 35 week centering model appointments in my calendar. One of those will be talking in the group about HB logistics, and as a third timer I'm going to be the veteran of the group.

So cool that you're doing the centering model! I looking into it, but couldn't find anything remotely local. How do you like it?

It's just 2 centering appts out of the whole pregnancy, so I like it. I don't know how I'd feel about meeting with a group the whole time, I'm such an introvert! They experimented with it my first pregnancy, I was in the first group to try it out, and since then they made it a standard of their care. It's really nice having a mix of women (and their partners/families, they're big meetings) with different levels of experience to share ideas and advice.

I've never heard of this term before. What is it?

  • Our friends just had baby number two that is a boy. That made it super real. Our girls are 4 months a part and our boys will be 4 months a part. We saw him tonight and I was like, "oh my gosh, this is going to be us!"

  • Over the last few days we've been making a ton of progress on the nursery. It's definitely a WOAH feeling. Then my OB gave me the glucose drink to drink before my next appointment and it was like flashback to what seemed like yesterday when I was pregnant with DD.

There's REALLY going to be another baby!

  • Last night we took the girls to a sibling class at the hospital where I will deliver, and watching them practice wrapping the baby and putting on diapers made me have a moment. I gotta get a refresher on some of this stuff!

  • I was driving the other day and looked at my kids in the rear view mirror and suddenly it hit me that very soon, there would be three little faces back there!!
  • Last time it was when I opened a pack of diapers and all of a sudden it smelled like baby in his nursery.  It hit me like a ton of bricks!

This time, it was when I went through DS's baby clothes/cloth diapers/etc to pull out stuff and DS was saying "Mama, that's so coot." I realized a few things: 1) My baby isn't a baby anymore, he's a big, smart boy 2) How fast he's grown up 3) There will be another baby here soon and she will grow up fast too!

  • My 22 week ultrasound did it for me. Also now since the crib is up the thought crosses my head whenever I walk by the nursery.

Pgal after 24 week loss. Probably won't happen for me til birth.
I'm so, so very sorry for your loss. :( Many hugs, mama. (((hugs))

It was extremely difficult to get excited, like truly "this is happening" excited, with my youngest. I didn't begin buying anything until 28 weeks, and only did so then because I no longer had baby stuff and I needed to begin preparing. But, I kept receipts and tags on everything, and didn't install his car seat until a couple days after his birth.

I already went down the road of preparing for my first son's arrival. Having what we needed, and ordering my birth kit. I was excited about another December baby, and then a month before, he was gone.

This time the anxiety isn't as bad, but I still have days, and just like last time, I will keep receipts and tags on everything I buy. And just hope I don't have to return everything.

  • Realizing I only have one more monthly appointment until I start visits every two weeks!

That, and knowing there is a chance my medication could cause my water to break early-ish, means I may not have until 40 weeks. Eeeeek!

This hit me this morning too!! I was thinking I'll be 28 weeks my next appointment and also realized I'll have just over 10 weeks then CRAZY!

  • When DH put the crib together. The room is nowhere near complete, but I just smile when I walk by and see that crib up and it makes it feel so real! Then I look to the right of the crib and see the mountain of clothes/baby things and have a mild panic attack. Still so much to do!
  • I'm still waiting on a "shit just got real" moment. :-S Thinking it will happen around the 1st of next month when we finally have our nursery room emptied out (someone currently living in it) and I can start working on it.
  • I realized this morning that I may only have 14 weeks left to be pg (DD2 came at 38w1d), and 14 weeks ago I was 10w pg...and that doesn't seem like very long ago...SLOW DOWN TIME!!!! This pregnancy is flying by. The first was slow as molasses (2 previous m/c made me a nervous wreck the whole time)...second was quicker...this one is downright speeding by!

We have nothing ready. But at least I know a newborn doesn't really need anything but Mommy immediately. :)

  • For the hubby and I it was the first ultrasound at 8 weeks and seeing the heartbeat flutter. We were both in awe and just felt so emotional.
  • We toured two different hospitals last weekend AND bought a new SUV in the same day. Then yesterday went shopping with my MIL for baby's clothes and my SIL told me that her baby is now in 6-9 month clothes...I feel like she was just born! Wahhh! But I am getting more and more excited to meet our baby boy.
  • For me it is seeing my bump ticker tell me that I am not far from reaching the under 100 days til baby arrives mark -- that, in combination with buying a dresser for the baby's nursery and ordering the wallpaper for the nursery this morning!

  • I think for me it's going to be when we get our "baby" in his big boy bed.  He's still in the crib right now, so it's like there's no room for another baby right now.  When Hubbs finishes the bed and we let him sleep in it for the first time, I think there will be two simultaneous "shit just got real" moments.  The first for our baby who isn't a baby anymore and the second for our baby who will be here before we know it.  :)

  • With my first it hit me super hard when I went into PTL at 31wks. I remember crying in my hospital bed just thinking about I was so so not ready for any of this.

With my second I had little bouts of realization, but it didn't really really hit me until my last appt when they decided to go ahead and send me to L&D. They had me in a wheelchair and all the nurses were waving at me and telling me good luck. It hit me HARD because my first was following behind us and I kept thinking "holy shit, this little boy's whole life is about to change and he has no clue. What the fvck did I do to my baby boy." LOL.

So far with #3 I keep having, "Oh, shit! How they heck am I going to do this with 3 crazy little boys" moments, but I don't think it has hit me completely yet.
