Babies: 6 - 9 Months

A few baby food questions

Hi everyone! So LO is a bit over 6 months old. The dr. said he can have everything but honey. Sure enough, just as I got in my car after his dr. appointment, I thought of a long list of questions. Can you help me answer some of these?

Is honey in a cooked product okay? (like honey wheat bread)?
How do you feed LO eggs? Do you scramble them and then cut into tiny pieces? If so, how tiny? (I'm not comfortable with BLW and pureed eggs seems odd!)
Yogurt's okay right?
Tomatoes and oranges okay? (I remnmer being told with LO #1 (who I didn't make food for) that those foods were too acidic for infants.
What's the latest guidance about foods with family allergies? Do you expose early or wait?

(If it matters for any of these questions, baby eats some purees now, and breastfeeds. With this one, I've been able to successfully BF with only giving him about 5 oz of formula in the 1st week!)

Thank you!

Re: A few baby food questions

  • The guidance is to hold off on honey until after a year because their gut isn't mature enough to handle the potential botulism spores.  Cooking doesn't reach a high enough temperature to kill botulism so I would continue to avoid it.

Serving finger foods now isn't BLW :)  It's progressing to finger foods, which is what they should be doing at this age - you know that from having an older one :)  You might be uncomfortable with it but it's the natural progression.   He WILL gag - that's normal too.  Scrambled eggs really just fall apart as you pick them up so scramble and put the "chunks" on the tray.  He'll figure it out :)

Acidic foods are a roll of the dice.  My kids never had any issues with them but some do.  If you feed them and there's redness around the mouth or a diaper later that makes it seem like it upset his stomach, pull back.

  • Thank you! For odd reason (maybe because my first's first year was really rough food wise), I don't recall much of what we did!

  • My doctor gave the same advice- anything (and everything!) but honey and WCM.

I've tried scrambled eggs and it was a pretty easy and safe food to try, didn't worry much as she could easily gum the pieces.

I haven't fine yogurt yet but only because I couldn't find plain in the store- but yes plain yogurt is ok.

I've also given LO cooked puréed tomatoes over pasta

My LO is 8 months so most of these foods I only started with the past month, but they are all safe to try!
  • How did you feed the scrambled eggs at 6 months?
