Bad mommy :(

I accidentally got LOs skin when clipping nails! :( it's bleeding and I'm trying to put pressure but it's like wrestling an alligator! I washed it but of course he's touching everything at this nasty hotel so I'm worried. Do I attempt a bandaid? Wash every so often? Stop freaking out?

Re: Bad mommy :(

  • No bandaid-it'll end up in his mouth. I've cut this LO twice with the clippers, but never with my older two :(  He'll be fine. It's harder on you than it is for him.

  • I cut lo every time I clip his nails. He is just a squirmy wormy and it happens. If you have any aquaphor or vaseline dab that on and it will help with the bleeding.

  • If you want to cover the cut you can pull out (buy?) a pair of newborn mittens.
  • I did this and felt awful so i understand. We did a bandaid with neosporin and clean sock over it bc it would not stop bleeding

  • I've done it 3 times now to this child. I'm going back to using adult clippers!
  • Happened to me too and I even called the dr. over it.  I felt horribly guilty for days (can you tell I'm a new mom?).  I was so traumatized by cutting his finger that now my husband has to bite my son's nails off for me because I'm even scared I'll accidentally bite his finger.  However, I AM a tad neurotic.

  • Thanks ladies. He was unphased but I felt terrible because it just kept bleeding! We have washed it a few times and I was able to put pressure on it during a feeding. Thanks for allowing the FTM freak out :)

I didn't think you were supposed to chew their nails?

  • Aw it will be ok! I agree with pp's - just give it a wash and leave it be. Make sure to keep it clean and dry for a few days.

I use these clippers (NOT the file though): https://www.amazon.com/Safety-1st-Sleepy-Baby-Clipper/dp/B001579YRM  and I love them! they are fantastic. I clip when LO has fallen asleep on me after feeding.

  • Yeah my kid's hands have bled more than once. They heal fast and it's better than him scratching his eyes out with those talons...

  • Hold a napkin or towel over the cut until it stops bleeding. It will be fine. Heads and hands bleed like a mutha.
And relax. Your kid won't be in therapy because you cut their cuticle. :-)

  • I did the same thing on day 4...twice. I cried. He cried. A little neosporin and we both survived! I would add the mittens now though! It's ok mama!!
