Can we talk about food? (Again!!)

So @MissDemeanor‌'s thread about the deep frier got me thinking about using my slow cooker that is just sitting in the kitchen storage. I also have an electric grill/pan that I don't use. I'm really struggling with eating healthy so want to start meal planning for the week.

So what you got F14, healthy ideas, recipes, tips etc.?

Re: Can we talk about food? (Again!!)

  • I'm no help. Every week I buy that box of salad, and it usually goes uneaten. I like salad, but I'm lazy

  • I have 'meal planned' for years. But, it's mostly for ease in grocery shopping. Not necessarily the healthiest of meals! (This week has included pigs in a blanket, breaded fish, pizza, stuffed Manicotti, French toast, Chicken strips, and something on the grill) Next week will be all about trying to use up some of the random things in the freezer, because we have 100+lbs of meat coming next weekend.

I have an entire pinterest board dedicated to meals that can be frozen, or cooked in the crockpot. I need to actually USE the ideas I have found on pinterest...

  • Pinterest is easy. Too easy. I have 3.5k pins. And not many that I've actually referred back to!

  • Pinterest is awesome for meal ideas. PM me when you've signed up, and I'll follow you or whatever it's called, and you can steal some of my pins

This sounds like a good project for when I'm procrastinating doing other things!

  • Skinnytaste has been another website I've liked for slow cooker recipes. I think in general a lot of slow cooker recipes are bland. But skinnytaste has some good ones. I made a turkey chili and an Asian sesame chicken this week. Both were good!

That's when I do it-- when i am procrastinating on getting some things done, or when I am multitasking at work. I HATE having >200 pins per board, because I tend to double and triple pin once it gets that big. I am working on splitting my desserts board into cakes, cookies, candy, pie, etc. I originally had close to 450 pins.

  • omg i LOVE my slow cooker! i actually just made chicken tortilla soup with it.
you can pretty much put any extra veggies and meat that you have, with some broth and salt, pepper, and garlic, put it on low all day and BAM awesome dinner!

or pulled pork/chicken is super easy too. a jar of BBQ sauce, some chicken breast, and a can of root beer. let it slow cook all day and perfect pulled chicken sandwiches <3

im a big fan of casseroles too. some frozen broccoli, diced cooked chicken, box of stuffing and a can of cream of (chicken or mushroom) soup, with a splash of milk. throw in the oven at 350 for 20mins--done!

im ALL about easy dinners as you can see LOL

i too get all my recipes from Pinterest

  • I'm a Pinterest-er too :) I've got a board for the slow cooker, one for one-pot meals, one for casseoles, etc. I also second skinnytaste.com for healthy recipes. I haven't made a bad recipe from that site.

  • I think www.allrecipes.com will create grocery lists based on recipes you've picked. Has anyone tried that yet?

  • Thanks ladies!

I spent yesterday night figuring out Pinterest and I must say I am bloody hooked!

The websites references are fab too so I'll be checking them out.

Also, I use an app called recipebook that allows you to manually create or pick up recipes from the net and then convert that into a grocery list. It's really working great from me so far!
