Where do you shop for clothes?

I just ask this because I'm DESPERATELY in need of some shirts that fit and I can't find anything! I've been to target once a long time ago, but it's almost 2 hours from me. There is a CATOs about an hour from me but I'd rather not pay a lot of money for something I'm only going to wear in that size for 2/3 months and the only other store around here is WalMart...which has NOTHING.

OH!...and there's a Kohls 30 minutes from me but their maternity section is literally the size of my desk and it's roughly $30 a shirt. INSANITY! Anyway...I'm looking for new stores. Thanks :)

Re: Where do you shop for clothes?

  • I wear mostly dresses and I got most of them at oldnavy.com. I read the reviews to see how they fit but mostly I wore the same size I was pre-pregnancy. I also ordered a few things from walmart.com that I actually like as well. I ordered a few dresses from kohls.com and a week into my 2nd tri, they didn't fit me anymore. I did pick up a couple of dresses that I absolutely LOVE at my local Target as well (the dress in my HDBD picture is Target).

Moral of my story is that I did all of my shopping online and winged it because the stores near me either don't have a maternity section at all or it's extremely limited.

I find that fall is quickly approaching so it's time to start looking into a few pairs of maternity pants and shirts for work but I have no clue where to start...

  • I just ordered some pants and blouses from oldnavy.com. I have found some cute tops at motherhoodmaternity.com as well. I need to find a fancier dress for next month so I'm probably going to have to go into a store. I am
A plus size gal, which makes buying maternity a bit more tricky. I hear jcpenny.com also has cute maternity clothes.

Ditto Motherhood/DM.  Not the best quality but they have decent stuff.  Also, Kohls.com.

I tried JCPenney and found that it wasn't that great.  The shirts were really short!  I'm also plus sized.

I need some fall stuff and another pair of jeans.

Yes. I wore an XL or XXL (if it's made smaller) before pregnancy anyway. I'm also tall so I need my shirts to be long and it's been super difficult! I did motherhood maternity to stock up on pants and it was way more money than I was comfortable spending BUT...I needed them. I'm not a dress person...EVER, but I'll still probably check out Old Navy just to see what I can find ;-) Thanks!

  • I have ordered a lot online from Gap and The Loft. I typically can get free shipping and returns and they always have good sales.
  • I have gotten most of my clothes this pregnancy from a local Facebook resale group ($1-$3 for maternity trousers and jeans!) but have also ordered lots of dresses from zulily and pink blush. The only store I have gone into is kohls and the selection is pretty small (although I have bought a few things there too).

  • If you can do online Walmart actually has some cute really decent price maternity clothes. I've got a "try before I buy" requirement though, so I tend to look more in the consignment stores too.

  • awww..that sucks that you have such a shitty selection near you.   I don't have a great selection either,  but I do have a Target near me,  and a Macys with a motherhood section.    They are small sections, but I am making do with them.

If you have any idea what brands and sizes work for you,  you can try ebay.    I got one pair of shorts from macys that fit me well,  so I just went on ebay and found 3 more pair of the same brand and size and got them hella cheap.    Hardly worn at all.     I wouldn't have made it through the summer without them,  and all 3 pair cost me about the same as the 1 pair I bought in the store did.

How do you find zulily stuff?  I've been so tempted but so scared about the "no returns" policy on most stuff.

I had the most luck at Kohls - HUGE sale when I went and then some random lady in the check out line gave me an additional 20% off coupon.  I expressed my love for her immediately :).  Other than that, second hand shops in my town had a couple cute things for dirt cheap, and WalMart for a couple pairs of pants that are holding up super nicely.

Consignment stores! I got a great pair of maternity jeans for $3.50 the other day!

This. I cannot justify spending the amount of money most stores want on something I will only wear for 2 or 3 months. Maybe see if there are any Mom2Mom or other types of seasonal consignment sales coming up on your area. There are 2 here in the next few weeks and I plan to get the few fall things I need there. ("summer" lasts well into October here)

  • I've bought the majority of my maternity clothes online from Target and Old Navy.  I was worried about the quality from both stores, but so far everything has held up really well.  A few Target purchases (maxi skirts & a couple of long, stretchy dresses) have been from their non-maternity section and they work for maternity wear, too.  I go for the stretchy clothes void of buttons & zippers in hopes that they'll last the whole pregnancy.

I have pretty much stuck to ordering my pre-pregnancy size and haven't had any issues.

  • Old Navy maternity has some great stuff. And right now they have lots of cute tshirt and whatnot pretty inexpensive.
  • I have gotten mostly stuff from target and old navy. Plus I love to browse clearance in every store for stuff that is flowy that I can pull off in a big enough size to fit the bump haha
However I am still squeezing into my jeans and regular yogas :\">
I have a fabulous jean trick where I don't zip them all the way and then tuck the buttons into my waist! I cover it up with long shirts and it works like a charm haha. However it's been getting increasingly uncomfortable...
I just haven't wanted to go and spend the money on maternity pants yet
  • Everything I've bought has either been from Target or online (Old Navy and H&M). But I've stuck to dresses because I those are somewhat forgivable in size differences. I tried on shirts and pants on MM once and everything fit so freaking strange that I haven't even attempted it again.

And ditto about the Kohl's comment. Their maternity section at our store is like the size of someone's desk and there's maybe one or two sizes of each item. It is worse than a clearance rack. I used to buy a ton of non-maternity stuff there. WTF Kohls.

  • Most of my stuff so far has come from Old Navy or Target.  I did order a few things from zulily, including two cute new dresses I am hoping to wear as much as possible before the weather turns on me.  It depends on what kind of September we get in PA!  I lucked out and got a bag of maternity clothes from my BFF who had her daughter a few years ago.  I can't use all of it, but she had a ton of nice stuff from Motherhood Maternity etc. because she was working in a more professional environment when she was pregnant.

I would be hitting up thrift stores/consignment stores for fall stuff at this point since we've got less than 3 months left.

  • Just an FYI - Old Navy has a bunch of stuff on sale right now.  If you go to their website and get into the Maternity section, click the "last chance deals" on the right side.  There are lots of shirts that are $5-$10 each.  I have a few of them that I paid full price for (grr) and really like them.  I just got 3 more shirts and 2 dresses for $35!

Use code SAVE to get an additional 30% off of the sale price too (I think this deal expires today though).

  • All of my stuff is from Kohl's or yard sales actually! But I always have coupons & Kohls cash which helps the prices and really ropes me into buying there.
  • I don't have a ton of maternity clothes, but almost all of them are very casual and from Gap, Old Navy, or Target, and I also received a bunch of hand-me-downs from my sister and sister-in-law. More recently, I went online and purchased a few non-tank/non-t-shirt items from ASOS Maternity and Motherhood Maternity (through Macy's and also at a Destination Maternity store in a nearby mall).
