Sorry if this is a dumb question. Do we have specific baby boy needs for the first few months of life? We are thinking abt not finding out the gender of thia baby #2, but im thinking i might just have a hard time latr running to the store buying boy-specific stuff if there's any. Of course we will buy basics and there are some of DDs stuff. So am i missing something? TIA
I don't think we needed anything special for a boy. Only thing I remember being different is that I could wipe the bum, back to front if I wanted, as long as he was clean after. Can't do that with a girl
Nothing special. If you chose to circ, you'll need vaseline for the first week or so. Not gallons, lol their penis is so little and vasaline goes along way. I bought a very small container of it and hardly made a dent in it.
If you choose to circ you will need gallons of Vaseline in tubes, not the tub.
Second on the Vaseline in tubes, that way it's easy to squirt a daub right on the diaper in that area to keep skin from sticking to the diaper. I had at least 2 tubes to start with, one for the changing table and one for the diaper bag. I didn't use anything to cover when changing diapers that I remember (and definitely not the useless peepee teepees that took longer to "place correctly" than it did to just get that diaper fastened. The trick I learned here was to have the new diaper open and under his bum before ever opening the old diaper so I could just whip the old one off, wipe quick and whip the front up over and fasten quick. Oh, and make sure penis is pointed DOWN inside the diaper so it doesn't squirt pee out the waistband!

This. I bought the tube so I could just squirt it on the gauze and the tube went a long way. they heal really fast.
Nope, nothing special needed! Like the PPs said, a little Vaseline will keep a circ from scabbing onto the diaper, and it does heal quickly. I've had two boys, and never had a huge problem with them peeing during diaper changes....I mean, maybe occasionally, but it's not like the diaper us really off that long during a change.
Now this post is making me wonder.....do I need anything special for a girl?? My plan was diapers, boobs, and a soft blanket!
Nothing extra that I can think of. We didn't cover his penis when changing and must have gotten lucky because he never peed on us. We did not circ so nothing for that.
My only advice is when you are tired in the middle of the might and you think you see something on lo's penis, it may be a drop of pee, don't try to look closer in the dimly lit room or you will get peed on! That being said in the beginning I used a wash cloth and when I tried to be quick and not use one is when I'd get peed on or even ds would pee on himself as soon as I lifted him up to get the diaper in place. I guess some babies like to wait to pee until they are in open air
You really don't need anything special for a boy. But as other peeps said, just be aware of the pee range of a boy! They love to pee as soon as you take nappy off. Always make sure penis points down when you put a fresh one on so they don't pee straight up their vest! I love little boys! Life is never dull lol

------ quote fail----- Ditto on the Vaseline, the new diaper under the bum trick, and the penis pointed down!
Also: I threw a cloth wipe over his penis while I changed him. It was more absorbent that a regular wipe if he did pee and then just throw it in the wash.

When DS was circ'd he had the plastibell. We didn't have to put Vaseline on it. We also never got peed on because before a nb boy pees his penis gets erect, so its pretty easy to tell when its gonna happen.
Soni guess I'm saying I can't think of a single thing you need special for baby boys.
Jk. My MIL freaked out one time because DS was taking a nap at my SIL's house in my niece's crib, and she was like, "You're not going to let him sleep on pink sheets, are you?" "Yes I am. It's dark in the room, and I don't think he'll notice or care. And even if he did, why would it matter?"
Anyway...I used a washcloth over the penis to prevent getting peed on, but it still happened sometimes. Ditto the Vaseline that PPs said. The hopital gave us a whole bunch of packets (ask for more to take home!), but we still bought extra.
If we have a girl, I'm scared of the poop wiping situation. Obviously I wipe myself, but it's different when it's in a diaper and gets all over the place. Boys are much easier to wipe like PP said because it doesn't matter about the direction, and there aren't as many crevices to worry about.
Do not circ! there are no benefits. Humans are born with foreskin for good reason. Keep his foreskin. But make sure you do lots of reading because you will get bad advice about how to care for intact penises.
If you circ the hospital will give you a tube of something to use on his little guy. So I wouldn't bother buying anything. We didn't even use the whole tube they gave us. Just make sure you always rub it up good every time you change the diaper or it'll get stuck to the diaper and bleed.
We didn't use a pee pee tee pee or anything, we just changed the diaper fast. Did we have a few times where he sprayed? Yes, but it wasn't a big deal.
I'm Glad this was all posted. Found out we will be having a boy. I only have a 11 year old daughter so I've been pretty nervous/scared. Lol thanks ladies
We didn't need anything special for our second being a boy. We just used the diaper to cover possible spray while changing. We did have him circumcised and the hospital "gave" us a specific ointment to use to help heal it.
Everything else we needed for him that we didn't already have was because he was a picky baby and had nothing to do with the sex.
I probably should have used a wipe or cloth to cover him during changes after getting peed on in the face, more than once. Other than that, nothing special, and yes, make sure to point that penis down. It will save you from wet pjs and sheets at 3 am.
I have 3 boys, and possibly another on the way! Nothing different that I can think of, but then again, I don't have any girls to compare it to! Lol. Ps- all of my boys are circ'ed. It was the right decision for us. You do what your little heart desires.

Well, MAYBE it'll save you from wet pjs and sheets at 3 am I think all babies come with an internal sensor, and they know exactly how many clean sheets you have...they'll pee through their diapers at least one more time than the number of sheets you have clean. ---///// quote fail------
Hahaha..... They also know how many clean onesies are left before laundry day.... It's magic I swear

I'm not sure what it is about that time that makes them have to pee again, but that's why we went with the larger size diaper once they started sleeping through the night. For a backup, we always had our mattress covered with the fitted sheet, a mattress protector then another fitted sheet over it. It made middle of the night messes a lot quicker to fix. We still do the same method on their big kid beds.
