Storage Tips / Tricks / Hacks

LO has officialy outgrown all things "newborn". Oddly sad, but I am excited to see him waking up to the larger world. I am also crazy for toddlers so I look forward to the future!

The husband and I have decided to wait until babies first birthday to talk about whether or not we will try for a second. That being the case I need to pack away and store his newborn clothes, rock n play, etcetera...

Living in SoCal I have never had to store winter clothes and am a newb in this area. Any tips and tricks on storing baby items and clothes?

  • Rubber maid totes (in closets, under beds), vacuum space saver bags are also great

  • Our neighbors folded up their RnP and put two clear garbage bags around it so they overlapped in the middle ad then sealed with packing tape. They lent us theirs and it had been packe away for two years like that. No dust or anything on it, just seemed narrower than our new one until it stretched a bit. I plan to store ours the same way.

Right now our newborn clothes are in a dresser in our guest room closet but once I get a Rubbermaid bin I'll move them to that.

  • Vacuum bags for clothes... Or maybe lend them out to friends? My friends already claimed a few of my baby items for when they deliver around end of the year.
  • I second the storage totes. Everything from old dishes to clothes get stored in those on a store shelf in the basement here. LO's clothes are collecting in a tote in his closet for now. His swing and such I'm not sure what I'll do with when the time comes to put it away.

  • with DS, we vacuum sealed them and placed the bags into the rubbermaid totes - we wrote on a sheet of paper what the size is and slid that in the bad before sealing.  its helped now that DD is here.  one thing that i wished i had done, was bad the gender neutral items separate from the gender specific items.

  • I hang reusable shopping bags on hangers in our coat closet and fill them with all kinds of baby gear. I've got one for hats/socks/bibs one for 3-6mo clothes and another for things he's out grown. It's totally out of the way and those bags hold tons of stuff, if you have the extra closet space :)

  • Like pp mentioned bins. We label them based on size, sex, and then we have a neutral bin. They go up in the attic. I have bins of clothes with future sizes for all three kids. If I see something I like/on sale, I grab in and store it in a bin. I usually make out well at yard sales when I don't have a newborn to care for in the summer.

  • I have had tons of clothes stored in vacuum bags, plastic bags and Tupperware. My advice is make sure it's your favorite outfits and re usable items. Something with a stain or something that was cheap that you could sell or donate then go ahead. I saved everything from my son and never had another boy. I saved everything from my daughter and was seriously running out of room in my house, attic, shed, garage. Everyone still bought my new baby girl new outfits and I still bought new things. My sis in law has given me a ton of stuff too. This is my last baby and it is bitter sweet but I will be getting rid of everything when I'm done. Lol
  • Space bags for clothes and labled contractor garbage bags for the swing and such. Contractor bags are thicker than standard bags and protcted everything great for the 2.5 years between the girls.

  • Oh we are donating all of our stuff!!! when we have our little prince, he will want all  new things anyway...not his big sisters old junk.
  • I agree with pp. plastic totes for clothes and garbage bags for anything big.
  • We keep a box in each kids closet. As I realize things are too small I throw them In there. When the box is full I sort through it and some of it gets given away or thrown away (mainly as they get older and clothes get much more dirty and worn) and the rest I take out the the garage in a plastic Rubbermaid. When that gets filled or we are completely out of a certain size I use vacuume bags and those go in the closet
