NBR: WWJ14D and Moving

DF and I are in California visiting my family. He started talking about how he wants to move down here. We are currently in Seattle and we are in a small Central coast town visiting. We could easily find work down here, the cost of living is approx. the same and it's gorgeous here. I love our lives in seattle and we are happy but I know we would be happy here. And my dad would love help with his business. But I've always lived in seattle and the idea of not raising babies there is weird. And now I'm not sure what to do. How would you decide?

tl; dr : we would happy in two places, how do you decide where you want to live?

  • I would move closer to family; no question. The free babysitting is the best and it's so nice to have a break when grandparents come over.
  • @Lilygrace48‌ his family is in Seattle and my extended family is but my dad and little sister are here. Just seeing how happy my dad is makes me want to move. It's just overwhelming and scary. But I don't want fear to dictate my life. Ahhh

  • I still vote go for it.  The fact that you are taking the time to think about it this hard means it's something you want to do.  My brother moved to OR from RI a couple years back (escaping from a messy divorce).  He realized how much he missed the people and places here and moved back 18 months later, none the worse for wear.  At the very least, it would be a neat adventure.  Hell, my sister moved to Saipan with her husband and 3 year old for a year (escaping her FIL's nasty court case).  Go for it!  And then, because I like California, I will come to visit :)

  • @Lilygrace48‌ ok, we will move but only if you promise to come visit ;)

We have a few things to wrap up in seattle but I think we might just put a move to CA in our 2-3 year plan.

What does your DF think since he will be moving away from his family? I live in CA so I am all for moving but if it may stir up any drama on your DF's side, you may want to evaluate the pros and cons. Also will you get help from your dad and little sister with your baby, since you said your dad is working?
  • As long as the cost of living is the same, California! Where at in CA, if you don't mind me asking.
  • California is awesome ;)

  • @irenewslee‌ it was actually DF's idea. He wouldn't mind moving away from his family since I am closer with mine. My dad would be able to help but I sah. It would be more about just being around as J gets older.

  • @elsa1688‌ Oh I love SLO! Perfect weather and close to the beach! Shopping is a bit further away since you will have to drive down to SB but all in all a great place to live. If he suggested it, I say it's a go!!
  • Like PPs I vote for family. We moved from Brooklyn to Dallas (urrrrggggg…) but now that the little guy is here having my mom and my brother and sister near by is a HUGE bonus, esp because they have LOs too. Plus, free babysitters :)
