Honest opinions about the name Amelie

WDYT of the name Amelie?

It has been on the top of our girl list since the very beginning of this pregnancy.  Every once in a while I get hesitant about it, but I still keep going back to it.

What are you opinions?  The middle name would be London.

  • I love that name!  beautiful.  It sounds old fashioned and very feminine.

  • I like it.  I think I like Amelia better, but Amelie isn't bad.
  • Love the name and the movie!

  • It is on the top of DH's list. I think it is very pretty but I am worried that people will not know how to say or spell it. We have a tough last name so I don't want her cursed twice. I haven't given up on it yet. I LOVE Emily, but it is #1.

It is pronounced like Emily, but with an Ah- sound at the beginning.

  • Very sweet name; I love it!

  • Amelie is very pretty. I don't understand using London as a name of a baby- it's the name of a city.

London is my moms maiden name.  It isnt just the name of a city to us, it has meaning.  And since we arent likely to ever use her first or middle name for a child we can still honor her by using her maiden name.

Got it. That makes sense. Sorry for jumping to conclusions... I'm just so over the Brooklyn, Sydney, name-that-city trend!

  • Beautiful, but I don't care for it with the middle name.  They don't flow well together for me.

  • Amelie London is a beautiful name!

  • I like Amelie!

To me it sounds a little weird with London, but since that's only the MN, NBD.

  • And fwiw, I like it MUCH Better than Amelia; I've never liked the "mealy" sound in the middle of Amelia (which also just makes me think "Amelia Bedelia.") My name is Amy and people would sometimes call me Amelia or ask if Amy was short for Amelia, and I always hated that; I just thought it was an ugly name. (No offense to anyone who has or has used the name; just giving my "honest" opinion as requested. :))

  • It's beautiful. London as a MN is NMS.

I agree. The stresses aren't right. Amelia London or Emily London work better.

  • I really like it!  Cute for a baby, grown up enough for an adult.

  • I love it.  I like the idea of using your maiden name as a middle name, alot of my family members have done that.

  • I knew the cutest girl in high school named Amelie. I do have to tell you though that kids would tease her and call her omelet. However, kids can be jerks and you'll have that with any name.

  • Its one of my fave girls names...unfortunately for me, DH hates it.

  • I like it.
  • Love it!  Make sure people put the accent over the 1st e.  My daughter's name will have an accent and I'm sure people will forget and pisss me off.
  • I think it will be mispronounced frequently.  She'll also spend her life spelling it for people.

    It's very pretty though.

However, it's very French.  So I think it looks quite odd with London as a middle name.

It's a gorgeous combination and what a lovely, lovely reason for a middle name!

  • I like Amelia or Emily better.
  • I love this name!  I hadn't thought of it when we were discussing out names, and I might have to re-vamp my list!
  • I love it! ?But then, my DD is named Amalie, so I am biased. :) ?Honestly, the first time I heard it, I was so-so. ?Then, during my pregnancy, I grew to love it. ?Now, I think it is the best name ever, fits DD to a tee, and how will we ever be able to come up with half as great of a name for #2? ?I like it with London, b/c of the family significance.

We get lots of compliments on the name Amalie.?
