Food battle

DD won't eat anything but fruit. Do I need to just give her whatever it takes for her to eat or should I offer normal meals and hope that she gets hungry enough to eat soon?

I'm just not sure if she's too young to play the "she won't starve herself" game. My mom said I was picky but that the doctor said I'll eat when I get hungry enough but DD is like 1.5 days into only really eating a few bites each meal. I think she's teething.

What do you do when LO is fighting food?

This is our house too, except sometimes she won't even eat her favorites. We were just saying at dinner last night we never know what she will eat.

I pretty much just offer her a regular meal, and hope she eats something from it. I know she is working on her canines, I can see one popping through, so I try to offer something soft at every meal (yogurt, applesauce, cheese) in hopes she will eat that. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.

Good luck. I know it is so hard to watch them not eat, when you would think they would be starving.

  • This is us too right now only it's just soft foods. She us getting molars and has a teething cold so I'm sure she can't taste a thing since she is snotty and painful. I have been offering favorites and squeezies and fruit at every meal. I figure this isn't the tine to worry about variety, I just want some calories in her! :-)

  • J is picky from one meal to the next. Last night he skipped his chicken quesadilla and just ate watermelon, cherry tomatoes and his grapes...and he nibbled on a few crackers. So they are not necessarily soft foods. Last week he ate all of his quesadilla, so I think he's just picky all around.

  • Our best friend when he's really teething are the packets. I usually try to get  a mixture of fruit, yogurt, and veggie packets and switch it up. He doesn't like them at all when he feels ok, but when his mouth hurts he'll sometimes eat 2 in a sitting. I also freeze go-gurts and give them as a "treat" - he loves them and it makes me happy he's eating yogurt.

Us too--a neighbor just told us about this trick, and J LOVES them!! And another upside is that it keeps him nice and occupied for a while, as they take a while to eat :)

  • Okay! We have some Mighty 4 pouches, I ended up giving her some. I was hoping to take them on vacation but I'll just have to find some other pouches to take with us.
  • We're having a similar problem.  DS hasn't had a full meal in days but he does graze a bit.  We noticed that the biggest problem is simply being in the high chair.  If I allow him to eat outside of the chair, he will eat more and not protest so we're going to switch to a booster seat and see if that helps. But most of this is related to exerting control over their environment.
