Stomach sleeper

omg I don't know if I'll be able to sleep again tonight(ever)! I just saw baby boy sleeping flat on his stomach, with his head to the side, but it freaked me out! I flipped him over but he keeps rolling back (while asleep)!

I know there are mommas on here whose LOs are stomach sleepers, so how did you (please say you did cuz I don't know how) get past freaking out over it?!?!

I know the doc said I don't have to flip him if he rolls over in his sleep, but he's basically forgotten how to roll back over (when awake) so he screams when he's 'done' with being on his belly, and I figure it'd be worse if he wakes like that and doesn't know wth is going on....

The first times that my LO flipped to her belly I was very worried and watched the baby monitor a lot. Now every night we lay her on her back and immediately flips to her belly. It does get easier ! Try to get some sleep

Our LO has been a belly sleeper since day 1. We got an Angelcare monitor to ease my mind, but if he's getting himself there then he should be just fine.

LO started STTN when she was on her tummy. the first few nights I woke up a lot to check on her but then I got more used to it. she's still in our room so I can hear everytime she wiggles which is helpful.

LO has been a stomach sleeper for months now. At first, it freaked me out, but I just got over it. He was going to sleep on his stomach whether I liked it or not!

Thanks ladies! I must've passed back out sometime after 4. Apparently the other issue with stomach sleeping is going to be his diaper...wet sheet & pjs so I had to take him out to change him & the bedding.

We both survived the night so maybe tonight will be easier for me!

I let both my kids sleep on their stomachs starting when they were much younger. Once he can roll there on his own it really is ok!

Make sure his penis is pointed down in the dipe and that should hopefully solve some of the bed wetting issues. That's just what I've heard though, I have two (stomach sleeping) girls! It will be okay!

My LO sleeps on either his side or his stomach all the time now. I was a little worried when he first started doing it, but he sleeps really well that way so I guess it's good. When he wakes up now he's rolling and scooting all over his crib. It's cute. We have his crib set up next to our bed with one side off (kind of like a co sleeper) and one on a while he will try to roll/scoot into bed with me.

@KatyBriggs‌ your dr gives you a hard time even though A gets on his tummy himself?

I was worried the first night or two of tummy sleeping, but it's how he sleeps. There's not much I can do.

Pretty much after trying to flip for the 100th time one night I let her be. We had the best nights sleep ever.

And reminding myself that's how I slept ad a baby, and still do frequently.

Both of mine are stomach sleepers. We use overnight diapers one size up.

I shouldn't have opened this. @-)

I'll just say that babies are not always safe on their bellies, even if they are strong enough to move their heads. 6 months isn't really a safe point. Ok, off my soapbox.

I think I'm going to have to pick up a pack of the overnight diapers, but he's just over 14 lbs, so won't the size 3 be way too big? Would something like the Huggies Snug&Dry (claims 12hrs of leak protection) be okay?

I've found that weight isn't really a great guage for diaper size. If your baby is leaking out of his diaper, I'd definitely try going up a size. My DS is 18 or 19 lbs, and we already went up to a 4 in overnight diapers because of leakage, and it works.

@Missy0483, I feel terrible that this discussion might be hurtful for you. You totally don't need to answer this if you don't want to, but what's your/your doctor's recommendation? If your baby is rolling to her stomach, do you flip her throughout the night?

the 3's are big but they're not loose, meaning they come up really high but aren't hanging off her butt or legs causing a gap. we use Pampers and have a lot of success because there's extra padding at the top on the front and back!
eta; pampers overnights, not regulars.

@sdlaura well that issue hasn't come up yet because Jenna isn't rolling at all either way and I'm 100% ok with it because I'm not ready to handle that yet (our son was on his back and rolled to his belly for the first time during a nap and that's how he was found). I'm sure my doctor would tell me to do what I feel that I need to because he knows our history with SIDS.

That makes sense. I'm so sorry for your loss - I can't imagine.
