Kick count logging

One of the items on TB's week 17 calendar is starting a "Kick Count Log". I'm a FTM-to-be and this is the first time I've heard of this. I know it's important to keep an eye on the baby's movements to make sure an active baby doesn't suddenly become inactive, but to what extent is a log like this important? Does anyone else out there count kicks? Have you found it useful? I have my A/S scan and doctor appointment next week and I will, of course, be asking about it then but I wanted to get other moms' opinions. Thanks!

PS: Another item on the Week 17 calendar is "Decision point: Will you find out baby’s gender?". ARGH. Even TB can't get the sex/gender definition right, and they do this for a living!

Most OBGYN recommend to start count the kicks at 28 weeks. I logged them myself because I am a high patient. My first born was premature due to fetal distress, I counted her kicks every day then suddenly it stopped. Second child I sadly Iost, she was stillborn due to placenta aging too fast. They called it placenta insufficiency. She also had decreased movements. Once you notice movements have changed/decreased always call your doctor. Counting kicks save lives.

I was never told to do that, either last time or this. As long as your kid is active throughout periods of the day you're fine. No way i would have the time to keep logs of kicks... Ridiculous... Eta: also, I guarantee you that not that many women feel regular kicking at 17w. Just another way to freak yourself out over something that doesn't matter...

Thanks all. That's pretty much what I gathered. I can't imagine how busy/paranoid I'd if I did even half of the the stuff on TB's to-do list... Appreciate your feedback!
