Need baby shower venue suggestions (Central Jersey). PLEASE HELP!

Hi all:

I'm looking for a venue appropriate for a baby shower in Central Jersey (preferably Middlesex, Somerset, Union, or Morris counties). I expect to have about 60 people and I prefer a place that I can rent out and provide my own food. I plan on an early afternoon brunch, light lunch or tea tea (finger sandwiches, cookies, pastries, cake, etc.) I'm hoping for a NICE VFW hall, community center, clubhouse or an alternative that is bright and sunny (lots of natural light). So many places I've seen are run down or super dark inside.

I would also consider an affordable restaurant or other venue that would provide their own food. I would need to keep it under $25/per person which shouldn't be that difficult to do considering I'm only doing brunch or light lunch but you'd be surprised #-o

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I need to finalize these plans ASAP. Thanks much!!!

  • There's an Elk's lodge in Linden where you can bring your own food.

  • Uh, most of us are from all over the world. I personally don't even live in the USA. If your local board wasnt any help, google it.
  • To answer some of your questions:

I would prefer to do it at someone's home but unfortunately I don't have the space in my home and I don't want to just ask someone that hasn't offered to host it. I'm also willing to chip in a good portion of the cost b/c I don't want to burden those throwing me the shower with a huge bill.

I'm not planning my own shower but as many of my friends and family are out of town/state they suggested I pick a venue (as I'm in the area) and they would take it from there.

Both DH and I have large families. Believe it or not, at 60 we had to exclude some extended family and friends.

We hope to have finger sandwiches and punch and play games but unfortunately even that can't be done for free when you don't have your own space in which to have the shower.

I've searched the web for suggestions and continue to do so. I hadn't found much and decided to turn to the the bump boards in hopes that some ladies may have suggestions of places they've used or have been to.

Thank you @cindyNmark2010 for your suggestion. I will check out the Elks lodge in Linden

  • Out of your search area, but working dog winery in mercer county is really cute and allows parties. I was there over the weekend and there was a bridal shower going on. I thought it was the perfect place, but my family tends to hate al fresco dining.
  • @absolutelymaybe I would take free in a heartbeat even if it meant dodging a chicken or two.

@excitedpreggo12 I'll check out the shower board. Thanks!

@tilelady85 Mercer is not too far - I'm in S. Brunswick. I've never heard of working dog but I'll check it out. Thank you!

  • Well I don't live anywhere near you but in general I would suggest a community room like at a church or library or perhaps even a subdivision  clubhouse.

Actually for my sister's bridal shower we resevered a large community room at a medical office  building for free. We also saved money because we were able to bring in our own food too.
  • I'm in northern nj and I booked mine at a Local post . It was way cheaper and better looking too. I would google local lounges in your area.
  • 60 people $25 a person?  Whoa.  I live in a world where a small group has finger foods, punch cupcakes and dorky games at baby showers.

    Hope you find something perfect!
What is a punch cupcake.....i......want one?
Bahaha. Punctuation makes a difference ;)
  • Try carpaccios in middlesex. It's usually 15 per person but a full Italian style meal. My family does a lot of parties there
  • Omg @missnacholover‌, i am officially in love with you. Let me google that for you is the best thing since taking a good crap.
