Beach advice

We are planning a trip to the beach in Sept. For those that have already made a beach trip with your LO, what did you find most helpful/wished you would've brought with you? So excited to see her on the beach for the first time!!

Re: Beach advice

  • We just went a couple of weeks ago.  I recommend bringing a pack n' play and setting it up under one of those big beach umbrellas. Bring lots of toys!

If you are taking the baby in the water, don't put one of the swim diapers on until right before you go in; a poopy diaper in a swim diaper is a huge mess.

Also, my LO was over the beach in a couple hours.  You may want to have a back-up activity or time scheduled for her to nap in the hotel before you head back out again.

    Have fun!

  • Spf material tent, big blanket or sheet to play on, swim diapers of course. Something soft, and easy to get on and off for baby to wear (think big t shirt or robe)in case you want to go into water multiple times so baby isn't sitting in wet suit. whatever you use for baby wearing for walks or hikes along water (which is also how I get my lo to nap at the beach), sunscreen obs. Hat and or sunglasses for lo, water shoes (just shoes that can get wet) in case of hot sand. Couple of water proof toys you don't mind getting dirty. Big bottle (like a gallon) of warm tap water to leave in the car to rinse off feet or lo right before you go home, so much nicer than cold beach shower and will help them fall asleep on the ride home as well as keep your car cleaner. Have fun my lo LOVES the beach, we go as often as possible which is about once a week right now. :-D
  • Thanks for all the input ladies! @rgoblue‌ we ordered one of those tents last night. Excited to try it out!!

  • I have this tent and I love it!  https://www.amazon.com/Shade-Shack-Instant-Family-Shelter/dp/B002KRZQMS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408303125&sr=8-1&keywords=shadeshack
My friend has a tent with poles and it is a pain to set up and take down.  The tent I have takes 5 seconds to set up and 30 seconds to put away.  I also like that there isn't a floor.  I put 2 beach towels down for DD to play on with toys and books.  Later we folded 1 towel back and played in the sand for a while.

I brought my Bob stroller and took DD for a walk when it was nap time.  I put the sleep sheep in there to block out noise.  When she fell alseep I put the stroller under shade and she slept for 1 hour while I laid on a towel on the beach.  Loved it!

    Have fun!
  • We went to the beach a week ago. I second all of the comments about a beach tent and sand-safe and water-safe toys. And definitely take baby powder! The talc in baby powder dries up the residual water left in the sand, and the sand brushes right off! Also, we took a shallow storage bin without the lid and filled it with water at the beach and she sat in this most of the time. I even fed her cereal and veggies in the tub, ha! She's a water baby! If your baby will wear sunglasses, give them a try. And a hat and baby sunscreen, obviously. The pack n play is a great idea if you have help to carry it. We took it and ended up not using it at all because she fell asleep in her infant car seat.

    Have fun!
  • We had a beach tent, umbrellas and the jogging stroller. The stroller was so nice to have because when DS got cranky I could put him in there, take him for a short walk and he'd nap in there under the umbrella for a while. He loved the water so sunscreen and a hat were very needed. The stroller for nap time was the best though. We were too far away to walk back to the house for naps. Just make sure if you take one to rinse the sand/salt off of the wheels and everything.

I had to add a picture. He loved the sand too! Only tried to eat it twice. Good luck and have fun! :)
